Swedish Midsummer Festival 2017

On Friday, June 23, the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival will once again take place in Battery Park City in downtown Manhattan. At this unique celebration, adults and children come together to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music. The festival includes both Robert F. Wagner Park and the adjoining Pier A Plaza.

The program features traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, folk dances with Barnklubben Elsa Rix, pole dancing led by Scandinavian folklorist and singer Ross Sutter, and a musical performance by Oskar Stenmark Trio. Food stands offer delicacies from New York's finest Swedish restaurants and food purveyors, including FIKA, Nordic Preserves, Red Rooster Harlem, Smörgås Chef/Crêpes du Nord, Sockerbit Sweet & Swedish, The Shop at Scandinavia House, and Pier A.
