Diaghilev Festival: Artistic Director and Conductor of Le Poème Harmonique - Vincent Dumestre

Le Poeme Harmonique is an excellent example of Baroque aesthetics during modern interpretation. Formed in 1998, the ensemble gathered around its artistic director Vincent Dumestre. The main focus of the ensemble’s repertoire is vocal and instrumental music of the 17th and early 18th centuries. The ensemble seeks to revive the performing techniques of the Baroque period, and also, through interaction with other forms of art, the spirit of the courteous era.

musicAeterna Chorus was founded in 2011. The repertoire of the chorus, essentially performed in the authentic manner, embraces different styles and historical periods. Each artist of the musicAeterna Chorus is like a soloist and all together under chorus master Vitaly Polonsky they reach the incredible concentration and absolute consent.

The concert at the Diaghilev Festival 2016 is the first experience in joint music-making of the famous ensembles. Artists will performed excerpts from a monumental collection of vocal music of the 17th century by Monteverdi called ‘Selva morale e spirituale’.

‘Selva morale e spirituale’ is not a single cycle. That is why the works, united under one cover, can be performed in any order and sequence. The depths of the collection are added by works of other Italian composers of the Baroque era — Falconieri, Gregori, Gabrieli.
