Although concert venues remain temporarily closed, we are delighted to bring our passion for music into homes across the Bay Area and beyond with our first-ever Virtual Festival.
Streamed live on our YouTube channel, the festival will feature never-before-seen performance footage recorded live at concerts over the last three seasons as well as a special live preview of a new SFGC commissioned choral-opera.
About Songs from the Archipelago
Exploring the musical intersection of western classical and Filipino classical music, Songs from the Archipelago replaces the previously scheduled June 16 Herbst Theatre concert with a live preview of Tomorrow’s Memories, a brand new SFGC-commissioned choral-opera from American composer Matthew Welch scheduled for its world premiere during the 2021-2022 season. SFGC will also perform a selection of works composed in the western classical style that draw heavily on folk songs of, and using instruments from, the Philippines.
