Patriarch Irinej of Serbia Visits our Holy Metropolis
On June 20, 2015, His Beatitude Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and his entourage visited our Holy Metropolis. Metropolitan Sotirios welcomed him with great respect and love. He provided the Patriarch with a tour of the Holy Metropolis including of our Theological Academy. An afternoon tea was hosted for His Beatitude and visiting guests; Bishop Christoforos and Fr. T. Porfiris also participated.
Metropolitan Sotirios welcomed His Beatitude Patriarch Irinej of Serbia to our Holy Metropolis on behalf of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and conveyed the brotherly love and appreciation of His All-Holiness. Patriarch Irinej expressed his love for, and appreciation of, His All-Holiness, saying that the Church of Serbia has always collaborated well with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and always will.
His Beatitude Patriarch Irinej and Metropolitan Sotirios also exchanged gifts. This is the third visit of His Beatitude to Canada; the first time was with the late Patriarch Pavle of Serbia and the following two times as Patriarch himself. Each time Metropolitan Sotirios has welcomed him, helping to develop a good friendship.
Metropolitan Sotirios sought to host a dinner in honour of His Beatitude but unfortunately the Patriarch’s demanding schedule did not allow for it.
Metropolitan Sotirios had the opportunity to have a private discussion with the Patriarch where they discussed various matters including the upcoming Holy and Great Synod of Orthodoxy scheduled to take place next year (2016) in Constantinople.
