🇮🇹🌏COLUMBUS INTERNATIONAL AWARD🌍🇮🇹.
CLUB for UNESCO GENOVA - Our conscious choice.
Christopher Columbus has always been around the world and not just in the United States a fundamental symbol of history. America's discovery remains a heritage of humanity in any case, despite any debate aimed at re-reading events of this magnitude today. Colombo then represents the figure that definitively closes an era built on the ancestral and consolidated beliefs of the past. To penetrate with his thirst for infinite the unknown and start the modern age.
The Club for UNESCO in Genoa firmly condemns, from the first known revolts, devastations and defends the day that, since 1937 has been a source of pride for all Italoamericans overseas. We want to bring the debate back to non-ideological tracks, because it's not possible to deny America's history or delete it altogether. The great American nation also offers ample opportunities to commit to a reasonable debate on the various aspects of the legacy left by historical characters. All individuals are imperfect, and all monuments dedicated to them represent just a snapshot of our history, now measured against the sensitivity of the st century. It is therefore unfair and irrational to apply today's political norms to a late th century historical figure. If the practice of applying today's political norms to U.S. Founding Fathers was widely accepted, there would be arguments to denigrate just some of the most important figures in American history. From Franklin Roosevelt, who supervised the Japanese American and Italian American internment during WWII, to Theodore Roosevelt, who after the lynching of Italians in New Orleans in 1891, claimed the event was a good thing. But we don't care about the instrumental pretext for creating breakdowns or friction, communities just need a sensible democratic dialogue that we would like to expand to all the international audience that aspire to share our important project. Columbus modern icon of dialogue to build a logic of lasting peace between peoples.
👉 The anti-social and anti-social fact 🇮🇹🌍
Even in the days that preceded his well-known anniversary, the effigies of the great Genoese character are literally beheaded, painted, thrown in the waves or thrown in the landfills. An impetant madness that began in Baltimore in 2017 and continued in Yonkers, Detroit, Los Angeles, Lancaster, Columbus, San Jose, Miami, Richmond, St Paul, Boston. Then, in early 2020, after the death of African American George Floyd and mobilisation against Trump, the anti-Columbus wave has increasingly turned into a stupid senseless Taliban persecution of history. In Colombus, a city dedicated to the Genoese Admiral, the monument donated by Genoa in 1955 was disassembled while in Elisabeth, New Jersey, the municipality removed the statue ′′ a figure not to be celebrated ′′ for the mayor to raise to his place an effigy dedicated to a dark transgender icon. For the time being Christopher still stands in New York's Columbus Circle.
Today already in 51 American cities and five states, the day has been scrapped in favor of Indigenous People Day. The natives will be celebrated on the second Monday of October with many greetings at the Colombian celebrations, which go on its own disappearance in Minnesota, Alaska, Oregon and Vermont, the latest arrival together with New Mexico. Among over fifty cities Columbus Day Free, Berkeley (obviously), Seattle, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Denver, Nashville.
👉 Anthropology of a historical icon 🇮🇹🌍
For the crowds raised by the saints of Cristoforo culture is now the archetype of trumpism, the father of an unlikely ′′ fascism ′′ stars and stripes. I mean, as an anthropologist I feel like saying that through a process of authentic historical misrepresentation that leads to the instrumental and idealization of a scapegoat of immense media power, our Admiral is now the main culprit, of everything that went wrong in the New World, from colonialism to slavery to racial segregation, although it's actually consequences he didn't want, didn't expect and didn't endure.
Questioning Colombo means denying one of the greatest icons of modernity, a Renaissance man who, with his disquiet and thirst for news, has been able to start a path of knowledge in search of the ′′ new ′′ and has marked an important break with a cast past in too perched medieval obscurantist beliefs and helped speed up the process of a modern concept of progress.
