The top ranking Romanian competitor at the George Enescu International Competition 2016, Violin Section, will be granted a one-year study scholarship at the renowned Barenboim Academy in Berlin, founded by the famous conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim.The scholarship is awarded by three of the highest-ranking Romanian-born violinists internationally, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici andMariana Sârbu and it bears the name of an important Romanian professor and violinist, Ștefan Gheorghiu.
Three of the highest-ranking Romanian-born violinists internationally, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici and Mariana Sârbu, will award a scholarship in Berlin in memory of their professor, violinistȘtefan Gheorghiu, to the top ranking Romanian competitor in the Violin Section of the George Enescu International Competition 2016, which takes place between September 3 and 25, in Bucharest. The scholarship consists of a year of studies with renowned professors of the world at the famous Barenboim Academy in Berlin, founded by the conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim.
One of the most important Romanian professors and violinists, Ștefan Gheorghiu (1926-2010) was the student of George Enescu and David Oistrach.

The George Enescu International Competition takes place between September 3 and 25 in Bucharest and it is the only classical music competition in Romania acknowledged by the most important international organization, World Federation of International Music Competitions.
The Enescu Competition is a true launching platform for future important figures of international music, as well as a reason for joy for the audience, who can listen to an entire music journey of some of the most talented young musicians of the moment on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum.

The violinist Mihaela Martin gave concerts all over the world, alongside orchestras such as BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic and Mozarteum Salzburg, under the baton of conductors like Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Kurt Masur, Charles Dutoit. Her debut at Carnegie Hall, New York, was described by the New York Times as “captivating”.
Silvia Marcovici played with several prestigious orchestras in Europe and the USA: The Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cincinnati, Atlanta, National Symphony (Washington D.C.), Philadelphia Orchestra, etc. Silvia Marcovici worked with famous conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Sergiu Comissiona, Placido Domingo, Riccardo Muti, Mstislav Rostropovici. At the 2013 edition of the Enescu Festival, Silvia Marcovici gave an extraordinary recital on the stage of Romanian Athenaeum, with the pianist Evgeny Kissin and the cellistAlexander Kniazev.
Mariana Sîrbu teaches violin at the prestigious Felix Mendelssohn Collage of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. She is also a visiting teacher at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, in Ireland. Over time, she has been part of the jury of numerous international music competitions.
