19th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival

Stay tuned!

19th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival
27th May to 2nd June 2019/ Free Entry

Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival turns officially 19 years old! This year it returns from 27th May to 2nd June 2019, where else, in Technopolis City of Athens and dedicates its first day to the Greek jazz scene presenting the most fresh and contemporary music the scene has to offer, exactly what happened last year as well.
The Greek entry to this year’s international program of the festival is Petros Klampanis Trio, under the guidance of Petros Klampanis. The widely bold artist promises to take us on a journey to the modern jazz spots of the American city through his performance on the jazziest stage of Athens.
On the same day, the stage of Technopolis welcomes the experimental sound of Grey Paris, a promising ensemble, the new musical suggestion of the festival.
The artistic committee of Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival is composed of Giorgos Charonitis (journalist in Athinorama, publisher of the historic magazine Jazz & Jazz for 20 years), Giorgos Mouchtaridis (director and radio producer of “Pepper 96.6”) and Leonidas Antonopoulos (producer of “Kosmos” radio station) has singled them out amongst 52 candidates, who were reportedly on a very high level.
Let’s get to know them a little better:
Petros Klampanis Trio (Greece)
Petros Klampanis grew up in Greece, surrounded by Mediterranean and Balkan sounds. He studied classical music and jazz in Athens, Amsterdam and New York before establishing himself as a promising musician in the Jazz scene of New York, where he shared the stage with many New York famous jazz players. His bold and unusual compositions, masterfully conducted by himself, showcase his strong influences and offer his audience a charming experience. His album “Minor Dispute” was chosen as one of the best albums of 2015 from NPR (National Public Radio), whereas in 2017 he released his third album, “Chroma”, for the first time in the New York record company Motéma Music (MINOS EMI released it in Greece and Cyprus) and was widely acclaimed from local and international press. In 2019, we expect the release of his fourth personal album, “Irrationalities”, which will introduce Petros Klampanis Trio with Kristjan Randalu in piano and Bodek Janke in drums and percussions.

grey paris (Greece, promising ensemble)
The music of Grey Paris is heavily inspired by aritsts such as Gogo Penguin, Nils Frahm and Fink and is characterized as an emotional world which becomes a mental yet tangible musical landscape through melodic pathways and rhythmical experiments. Grey Paris were spontaneously formed in Berlin in 2016, when a piano “re-entered” the life of the composer Giorgos Parisis, who had been an active saxophonist up to then. When he invited Arian Stechert, a drummer and piano manufacturer, to repair the piano, the musical chemistry was all over the place and soon after the first music ideas became their first album, “Now is the Moment”. Sometime later, the multi-talented bassist Mark Beumer entered the Trio. Nowadays, the band is under a creative spell and is already recording its second album, “Mideia” which will probably be released in autumn 2019. Grey Paris have already performed in several festivals and events in Germany and abroad (Piano Day Thessaloniki, along with Get the Blessing & Leon of Athens, Greek Embassy, Berlinale, Kantine am Berghain, B-flat etc.)
