Spring Meeting of the Metropolis Council of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Toronto and other events

Under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Sotirios, the Metropolis Council was convened to consider all issues with respect to the proper functioning of our Church in Canada.

Members of the Metropolis Council emanate from all over Canada. In this session, participants came from one end of Canada to the other, from Halifax and the Atlantic Coast to Vancouver and the Pacific Coast.

The twenty-three (23) Committees of the Metropolis Council presented their written reports and appropriate decisions were taken as a result.

The Metropolis Council was also attended by the Consul General of Greece in Toronto, Mr. A. Ioannidis.

During the meeting of the Metropolis Council, participants first heard the news that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had been briefly hospitalized, however he is doing very well. The Metropolis Council prayed for his health.

The meeting began with a prayer and a reading from Acts of the Apostles 1:11, which was exceptionally presented by Fr. K. Kaltsidis from Vancouver.

Metropolitan Sotirios thanked all the members and praised God for the great progress of our Church in Canada.

Meeting of the Metropolis Philoptochos Council

The spring meeting of the Metropolis Philoptochos Council, presided by Mrs S. Rassias, was held on Saturday, May 5, throughout the day.

Metropolitan Sotirios spoke on the passage from Acts of the Apostles: “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11. All of the chapters of the Philoptochos in Canada are progressing very well, labouring in harmony and with love.
