On July 30, 2016, by the Grace of God, the second camping session of our Holy Metropolis in Ameliasburgh, Ontario, came to a successful conclusion. This session included children from Quebec, who were accompanied by Fr. Zisis Nterekas, Fr. Constantin Lungu, Fr. Chrysostomos Achilleos, Fr. Elias Drossos, and Fr. Demetrios Antonopoulos, as well as by many volunteers. Similar to the first session, this second session met with great success leaving all attendees with much joy and enthusiasm.
The theme of the second session was from the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament, specifically 'Creation'. All of the priests and volunteers spoke to the children about our Lord's Creation, answered questions and participated in dialogue about this subject. The children also participated in the daily liturgical life of the Church including Matins, the Divine Liturgy, Vespers, Small Compline and Supplicatory Canon to the Mother of God, the Most-holy Theotokos (Small Paraklesis).
The children who participated in this camping session also enjoyed arts and crafts and various performances. All events were characterized by love and laughter - a true Christian experience.
On the final day of the camping session, His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios, accompanied by Fr. Ignatios Delis, Fr. Odisseys Drossos, Fr. Nicholas Papageorgiou, visited the camp where they met with all the campers and volunteers; the Divine Liturgy was celebrated and Holy Communion was received by all attendees.
Breakfast was then served where His Eminence thanked everyone and announced that, God willing, next year there will be four camping sessions - three from Ontario, and one for children from Quebec.
The Metropolitan then asked the children to be ambassadors of the camps in their respective communities sharing their experiences with all, to ensure the continued success of these initiatives for many years to come.
