Prokofiev’s chamber and vocal music at Dom Radio by musicAeterna soloists

April 23 marks the 130th birth anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev. To celebrate it, the composer’s chamber music will be performed at Dom Radio by musicAeterna soloists. Prokofiev’s chamber style is an artistic phenomenon as vivid, original, and complex as his symphonic and theatrical works. The concert programme features works of various genres: Piano Sonata No. 9, Five Melodies for Violin and Piano, Sonata for Two Violins, and Three Romances for Voice and Piano.

Prokofiev’s chamber and vocal music will be the subject of a separate talk. On April 17, the Modern Audience Laboratory course, dedicated to Prokofiev’s 130th anniversary, will be continued with a lecture. Svetlana Petukhova, a senior researcher of the Music History Sector at the State Institute for Art Studies, Candidate of Art History, will talk about “poems for voice”, songs, romances, and treatments. The stylistic features of Prokofiev’s vocal music have been studied many times. Their diversity often obscures the stories behind the compositions, many of which are connected with the author’s love interests, his affections, enchantments, and disenchantments.
