Painting Canada Blue to Mark the
200 Anniversary of the Greek Revolution
In the Province of Ontario, March is Hellenic Heritage Month, with special events honouring and remembering the Greek Heroes and the contribution of Hellenism to World Culture, History, Philosophy, Science and the Arts.
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution, the Government of Ontario, the City of Toronto, and other municipalities such as the City of Niagara Falls, decided to illuminate their famous landmarks on the night of March 24-25 with the colours of the Greek Flag.
On Wednesday, March 24 at 8 p.m. the “Toronto” sign at Nathan Philips Square will be illuminated with the colours of the Greek flag.
On Thursday, March, 25th, after sunset the famous CN Tower will be illuminated blue and white to commemorate the anniversary of the Revolution. Live Stream: https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/home.html#earthcams
On the same evening from 9:45 – 10:00 p.m. Niagara Falls will be illuminated blue to commemorate the anniversary.
In the Canadian capital of Ottawa and other major cities across the country, such as Montreal and Vancouver, there will be official Greek flag raising ceremonies and similar celebrations online; the Greek National flag will also be displayed at municipal buildings and on main streets, as well as at parades.
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada sincerely thanks those responsible for marking the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Ottawa, Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Victoria, and the numerous other cities across Canada.
