One of the largest gatherings of choirs in Europe is taking place within the framework of the concert “Eleftheria 2024”, held on Saturday, March 16 at Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia.
This event features 2000 participants in a polyphonic extravaganza that will showcase choral music as a powerful, unifying, peace-bringing force among people and nations.
Over 50 choirs from across Greece and Cyprus join their voices in a vast artistic assembly. They will line up at Eleftheria Stadium accompanied by a 200-member orchestra, to celebrate the universal concept of Freedom, honouring refugeehood, struggles, and the vision of reunification, on the 50th anniversary of the island’s violent division.
Cypriot performers, philharmonic orchestras, and cultural ensembles also participate in this significant artistic gathering, where, among other things, excerpts from great musical works by Mikis Theodorakis and other eminent composers of freedom will be presented.
Cultural and folkloric groups will parade inside the stadium during the grand opening ceremony, accompanied by the Cyprus Police Philharmonic Orchestra.
The organisation also highlights diversity and encourages the mobility of musicians and singers, promoting choral singing as an art form and a tool for connecting people of all ages, beyond any borders and divisions. It also contributes to raising awareness about the benefits of collective singing.
This concert is under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Cyprus and the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus.
