The Atlanta Opera is proud to present the second annual 24-Hour Opera Project, Friday, January 20, 2012 and Saturday, January 21, 2012. Composers, lyricists, stage directors and opera singers from all over may apply to compete in the project. The deadline is December 15, 2011.

Compositions and performances will be judged by a panel of judges, the audience, and by the public via live webcast (details TBD) on Saturday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the judge’s choice and audience favorite.

What are we talking about?

We’re talking about opera insanity! 24 hours to compose, rehearse, and perform an opera with strangers. Compositions and performances will be judged by a panel of judges and by the almighty public tuning in via live webcast of the culminating showcase performance. Prizes will be awarded to the judge’s choice and audience favorite. No travel, housing or per diem provided. No cash prizes awarded.

See the craziness for yourself! Check Out Videos from last year’s 24-Hour Opera Project.

Where will the event take place?

The 24-Hour Opera kick-off event, composing, and rehearsing will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. The showcase performance will take place at The Atlanta Opera Center. Admission to the performance is free and open to the public and will also be broadcast live online!

?

The Fine Print:

Compositions must be 7-10 minutes in length, written and performed in English and scored for 4 singers with piano, and composed around a specific theme (top secret until January 21!). Pre-existing compositions will not be eligible. Composition teams will be paired randomly, compositions will be assigned to stage directors randomly, and participating singers will be selected to perform through a singer “draft.” Submission of application in any category does not guarantee participation. Artists may apply in more than one discipline, but will be invited to participate in only one discipline; Applicants selected to participate will be notified by December 19.

The Atlanta Opera 24-Hour Opera Project is made possible by generous support from Turner Broadcasting System, Inc and Turner Voices.
