“Today is Born for You, a Saviour”
(Luke 2:11)

The situation is bleak. As the years and the centuries pass away, sin accumulates. Humanity is laid low and groans under the weight of sin. People appear sullen. The glow of joy and happiness is extinguished from their faces. Lost in all this are the smiles from their lips. But they still try to live by the motto "know thyself." They know their situation. They see that they are going from bad to worse. They seek salvation. They know that they cannot save themselves. They await the Mighty One, who is coming from the Heavens. Only He can save them.
The shepherds guard their flocks by night. They take shifts during this cold night. Suddenly, like lightning, an Angel bathed in light descends from the heavens. His heart is rejoicing and his face shines. He is the Angel of the Lord. The glory of God surrounds them. Everything is illumined and the shepherds are terrified by what they see.
The Angel calmly, peacefully and gently reassures them. With the launguage of the shepherds, he says to them. “Do not be afraid. I bring you tidings of great joy.” And this is the joy for all people. For those who live now; for those who lived in the past; and for those who will live in the future. And the reason for this joy is that "for you is born this day a Saviour who is Christ the Lord." He is born to save you and all people. He is the anointed Holy One of God. The Lord, Redeemer and Saviour of the world.
Humanity lived by the motto "know thyself", and they desired to be saved. The drama of contemporary men and women is that they do not “know themselves" and their origin and ultimate fulfilment in God. When people lack knowledge of who they are as God created them to be, they ignore God and instead, “make themselves god.” They think that in today’s modern world, they do not need God or His gift of salvation. They believe that salvation is no longer a necessary pursuit. Instead, they search for happiness, but in the wrong places. They seek pleasure in the sins from the material world around them, while ignoring the eternal happiness that derives from the pursuit of spiritual treasure in seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
The tragi-comedy of contemporary men and women is that while they think that they are wise, they manifest themselves as foolish. They are so short-sighted in their knowledge of life, that they do not see that the end draws near. Death does no favours to anyone. Added to this state of sad affairs are the modern false prophets who make empty promises, giving false hope to those they ensnare with their sweet words. It seems that all the unhappy men and women in today’s world, who have ignored God and placed themselves in His rightful place, are more receptive to the vain hopes and the empty promises of these false prophets. These people look for salvation in the wrong places, and are more enthralled by demonic sings and magic; by horoscopes and their futile attempts to tell people what will happen today and tomorrow. God has already revealed what is to happen to us and what is our true destiny: to live in union with Him forever in His Kingdom that has no end. The birth of Christ reminds us that there is only One Saviour, and He is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only Redeemer and Saviour of the world.
You who hear these words, ignore the sirens and the conflicting messages offered to you by the world, sunk down in foolish pride and vain-glory. Think about yourself. Know yourself in relation to God your Creator. Make the effort to meet and know our Savior Jesus Christ. Look down to the earth and see that sooner or later, the darkness of death will come. Behold Christ and see that He alone has the "words of life.” He is "the Truth and the Way and the Life.” He is born for you and all the people in the world. He can and He desires to save you. He wants to give you eternity and eternal happiness. He desires to give you life after death. You cannot save yourself. But if you want to be saved, Christ can and wants to save you. But you must want this to.
You who now live in sad and tragic circumstances! Make an effort to "know thyself." "Believe in Jesus Christ and you and your household will be saved." Your life here on earth will one day come to an end. Only Christ can give you life after death in eternity. He promises you eternal happiness. Christ is your only Redeemer and Saviour: for you and for all people in the world.
I urge all of you, beloved Christians, to make the effort to "know thyself." Come to know Jesus Christ the Savior of the world, not only as an historical figure, but personally as your own Saviour. Give yourselves over to Him so that He may save you. I extend my very best wishes to everyone for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year.

«Ετέχθη υμίν σήμερον Σωτήρ»
(Λουκά 2, 11)

Η κατάσταση ζοφερή. Με τα χρόνια και τους αιώνες που περνούν, η αμαρτία συσσωρεύεται. Η ανθρωπότης καμπουριασμένη, στενάζει υπό το βάρος της αμαρτίας. Οι άνθρωποι σκυθρωποί. Έσβησε η λάμψη της χαράς από το πρόσωπό τους. Χάθηκε το χαμόγελο από τα χείλη τους. Έχουν όμως το «γνώθι σαυτόν». Γνωρίζουν την κατάστασή τους. Βλέπουν ότι προχωρούν απ’το κακό στο χειρότερο. Ζητούν την σωτηρία τους. Από μόνοι τους ξέρουν πως δεν μπορούν να σωθούν. Περιμένουν τον δυνατό εξ ουρανού. Αυτός μόνο μπορεί να τους σώσει.
Οι ποιμένες ξενυχτούν. Φυλάν βάρδιες για το κοπάδι τους. Ολόλαμπρος νέος σαν αστραπή κατεβαίνει απ’τους ουρανούς. Η καρδιά του είναι ευφραινομένη και το πρόσωπό του λάμπει. Είναι ο Άγγελος Κυρίου. Η δόξα του Θεού τους περιβάλλει. Τα πάντα γίνονται φωτεινά και κατατρομάζουν τους ποιμένες.
Ήρεμος, ειρηνικός και μειλίχιος τους καθησυχάζει ο Άγγελος. Με ανθρώπινη λαλιά τους λέγει. Μη φοβείσθε. Σας φέρνω μεγάλη χαρά. Και είναι η χαρά αυτή για όλο τον κόσμο. Γι’αυτούς που ζουν τώρα. Γι’αυτούς που έζησαν στο παρελθόν. Γι’αυτούς που θα ζήσουν στο μέλλον. Και η χαρά αυτή είναι ότι «ετέχθη υμίν σήμερον Σωτήρ». Γεννήθηκε για σας και για όλο τον κόσμο σήμερα Σωτήρας. Και αυτός είναι ο κεχρισμένος του Θεού. Ο Κύριος.
Ο άνθρωπος της γέννησης του Χριστού είχε το «γνώθι σαυτόν». Επειδή είχε το «γνώθι σαυτόν», γι’αυτό ήθελε να σωθεί. Το δράμα του σημερινού ανθρώπου είναι ότι δεν έχει το «γνώθι σαυτόν». Ο σημερινός άνθρωπος, χωρίς το «γνώθι σαυτόν» «εαυτόν Θεόν εποίησεν». Έκανε τον εαυτό του Θεό. Νομίζει ότι δεν χρειάζεται τον Θεόν. Πιστεύει ότι δεν έχει ανάγκη σωτηρίας. Ψάχνει για την ευδαιμονία του. Την ευτυχία του στην αμαρτία.
Το κωμικοτραγικό του σημερινού ανθρώπου είναι, ότι ενώ νομίζει ότι είναι σοφός, αποδεικνύεται μωρός. Είναι τόσο κοντόφθαλμος που δεν βλέπει ότι το τέλος εγγίζει. Ο θάνατος δεν κάνει χάρη σε κανένα. Πάνω σ’αυτό το δράμα του και σ’αυτή την τραγικότητά του προστίθενται και οι ψευδοπροφήτες. Και ο δυστυχής σημερινός άνθρωπος που νομίζει ότι έκανε τον εαυτό του Θεό, άγεται και φέρεται από τους ψευδοπροφήτες. Από την μαγεία. Από τα ζώδια. Ξεχνά ότι ένας είναι ο Σωτήρ. Ο Χριστός. Ο μόνος Λυτρωτής και Σωτήρας του κόσμου.
Εσύ που με ακούς, άφησε τον κόσμο στη μωροφιλοδοξία του. Σκέψου τον εαυτό σου. Γνώρισε τον εαυτό σου. Και γνώρισε τον Σωτήρα Χριστό. Κοίτα στη γη και δες ότι αργά ή γρήγορα έρχεται η μαυρίλα του θανάτου. Κοίταξε τον Χριστό και ιδές ότι «ρήματα ζωής έχει». Αυτός είναι «η Αλήθεια και η Οδός και η Ζωή». Γεννήθηκε για σένα και για όλο τον κόσμο. Μπορεί και θέλει να σε σώσει. Να σου χαρίσει την αιωνιότητα. Την αιώνια ευτυχία. Να σε κάμει να ζεις και μετά θάνατον. Εσύ μόνος σου δεν μπορείς να σωθείς. Αν όμως θέλεις, μπορεί ο Χριστός να σε σώσει. Πρέπει όμως να θέλεις.
Σημερινέ, τραγικέ άνθρωπε. Απόκτησε το «γνώθι σαυτόν». «Πίστευσον εις Ιησούν Χριστόν και σωθήσει σύ και ο οίκος σου». Η επί της γης ζωή σου, θα φθάσει στο τέλος της. Μόνον ο Χριστός μπορεί να σου χαρίσει την μετά θάνατον ζωή. Την αιωνιότητα. Την αιώνια ευτυχία σου. Ο Χριστός είναι ο μόνος Λυτρωτής και Σωτήρας δικός σου και όλου του κόσμου.
Καλώ όλους σας αγαπημένοι μου Χριστιανοί, να αποκτήσομε το «γνώθι σαυτόν». Να γνωρίσομε τον Σωτήρα μας και Σωτήρα όλου του κόσμου. Να δοθούμε σ’Αυτόν για να μας σώσει. Εύχομαι σε όλους Καλά Χριστούγεννα και Ευτυχισμένο τον Καινούργιο Χρόνο.
