INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF SELECTION FOR OPERA COACHES / RÉPÉTITEURS - Young Artists Program 2020-2021

Scholarships: Euro 1,000 gross per month for each participant, for a total value of Euro 13,000 gross per head

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Academy/Florence Opera House announces open the enrollment to the selections for admission to the Young Artists Program for Répétiteurs/Opera coaches, 2020-2021 season.
PURPOSE
The course is designed to train and form the opera pianist in his various specializations: opera coach/répétiteur, piano accompanist, conducting assistant, stage musical assistant, prompter, stage management assistant, lighting musical assistant.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • to have been born not before January 1st, 1992;
  • to be at least 18 years old;
  • to be in possession of one of the following Diplomas of I level (Bachelor), or higher level (example: Master), issued by Music Conservatories, Universities or equal music schools: Répétiteur/Opera coach, Piano accompanist, Piano, Harpsichord, Conducting, Composition. Similar qualifications will be accepted at the sole discretion of the Management.
The qualifications obtained at non-Italian musical institutions will be considered only if equivalent to those issued by the above Italian public institutions, according to international agreements and regulations.
The selections are open to both Italian and foreign citizens, including citizens coming from countries outside the European Union.
PERIOD OF THE COURSE
From April 2020 to June 2021 (Summer suspension: July-August 2020).
COURSE STRUCTURE
The training program includes individual, group and collective ordinary classroom lessons; master classes; stage-musical training workshops and work experience. The curriculum is divided into the following modules: Study of the score; Technical, musical, stylistic and interpretive development; Techniques of the recitativo and Improvisation; Accompaniment practice; The score for the stage and lighting; cultural knowledge of the field; workshop; work experience.
The faculty consists of affirmed professionals and renowned artists.
In addition, participants will be able to join in meetings with conductors, directors and singers, guests of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino/Florence Opera House, and to assist in all stages of production of the operas and concerts on the playbill.

SELECTION DATES
March 14-15-16, 2020 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino/Florence Opera House, Piazzale Vittorio Gui, 1 – Firenze (Italy).
EXAMS
1) Preliminary round
a) performance of a piano piece chosen by the candidate, maximum 10 minutes in duration;
b) piano performance of the “Finale” of Act Two of The marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, from Allegro assai, “Voi signor che giusto siete” (entrance of Marcellina, Basilio and Bartolo) to the end of the act, with humming the vocal parts;
c) sight reading of opera excerpts of the Italian operatic repertoire.
2) Final round
d) execution and realization of a recitativo secco taken from The barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, with humming the vocal parts. The recitative, chosen by the candidate, must include at least two characters;
e) piano performance of Act I of La bohème by Giacomo Puccini under a conductor;
f) piano performance, with humming the vocal parts, of:
– an opera excerpt (soloist aria or ensemble piece) in French language;
– an opera excerpt (soloist aria or ensemble piece) in German language;
g) interview.
SELECTION ADMISSION FEE
Euro 80.00 (Eighty/00), including VAT, to be paid online by credit card. The paid enrollment fee will not be refunded in any way, except in the case of cancellation of the selections.
COURSE ATTENDANCE FEE
None. Attendance to the course is free.
SCHOLARSHIPS
All candidates admitted to the Course at the end of the selections are assigned a scholarship of Euro 1.000 (one thousand/00) gross per month, for a total value of € 13,000.00 (thirteen thousand/00) gross, with effect from April to June 2020 and from September 2020 to June 2021.
ARTISTIC ACTIVITY
The Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino/Florence Opera House and the partner musical institutions may offer the participants artistic contracts for preparation and performance of operas and concerts.
ADMISSION TO THE COURSE OF NON-EU CITIZENS
Upon registering for the course and for the entire duration of the academic year the admitted non-EU citizens will need to demonstrate compliance with current Italian immigration law. In particular, they will have to provide a copy of their passport and a valid residence permit.
