- Τρεις αρχαίες πόλεις ζωντανεύουν -

Η έκθεση περιλαμβάνει 500 περίπου αρχαιότητες κάθε είδους που χρονολογούνται από τα νεολιθικά (7η-6η χιλιετία π.Χ.) έως και τα βυζαντινά χρόνια (8ος αιώνας μ.Χ.) και ζωντανεύουν μέσα από νέες ανασκαφές αλλά και από παλαιά ευρήματα που για πρώτη φορά βγαίνουν στο φως:

Eίναι η πρώτη φορά που τόσα πολλά αρχαία αντικείμενα, προφυλαγμένα και διατηρημένα στις αποθήκες Εφορειών Αρχαιοτήτων και στις προθήκες Μουσείων της Κρήτης, φεύγουν από τον γενέθλιο χώρο, για μια περιοδική έκθεση στην Αθήνα.

Η έκθεση περιγράφει τη ζωή τριών πόλεων, της Άπτερας, της Ελεύθερνας και της Κνωσού από τη γέννησή τους, το πώς εξελίχθηκαν με το πέρασμα του χρόνου, την εγκατάλειψή τους καθώς και το τι ήρθε στο φως από τις νεότερες ανασκαφές και έρευνες.

▪ Crete. Emerging cities: Aptera – Εleutherna – Knossos ▪
- Three ancient cities revived -

|| NEW EXHIBITION ||

Approximately 500 artefacts, some newly excavated, others from old excavations but never presented to the public before, represent these three important cities of hekatompolis Crete (Crete of the one-hundred cities). 

Some of these artefacts illustrate personified narratives. It is also the first time that so many artefacts leave Crete for a temporary exhibition.

The exhibition outlines the life of three cities, Aptera, Eleutherna, and Knossos, from their founding and development to their abandonment and rediscovery through recent archaeological investigation and excavation.

This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion, the Archaeological Museum of Rethymno, the University of Crete – Museum of Ancient Eleutherna Research Centre, the British School at Athens – Knossos Stratigraphic Museum and FABA - Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso para el Arte, with the participation of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens – Gennadius Library, the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation, and the Benaki Museum, who contributed Renaissance maps and books.
