25η Μαρτίου 1821 και η άλλη Ελλάδα

Τετρακόσια χρόνια εξουθενωτικής σκλαβιάς. Η οθωμανική αυτοκρατορία εγκολπώθηκε τη θρησκεία του Μωάμεθ, αλλά αυτή στην ουσία δεν είναι θρησκεία. Eίναι πολιτικό σύστημα. Το σύνθημά της και σήμερα είναι «Islam will rule». Ο Μωαμεθανισμός θα κυβερνήσει. Kαι θα κυβερνήσει δια παντός μέσου.
Αυτό το έζησαν στο πετσί τους, οι Έλληνες και η Ελλάδα, στα τετρακόσια χρόνια σκλαβιάς. Έχασαν κάθε ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα. Δεν είχαν καμμία ελευθερία. Επλήρωναν σκληρό χαράτσι. Το πιο σκληρό απ΄όλα, η οθωμανική αυτοκρατορία και το πολιτικό σύστημα του Μωάμεθ, έπαιρναν τα παιδιά τους. Τα εξισλάμιζαν. Τα έκαναν γενίτσαρους και τα έβαζαν να σκοτώνουν τους γονείς τους και τα αδέλφια τους. Ξύπνησε ο Έλληνας. Αγανάκτησε και φώναξε.
«Μάνα σου λέω δε μπορώ τον Τούρκο να δουλεύω
δεν ημπορώ δεν δύναμαι εμάλλιασε η καρδιά μου
θα πάρω το ντουφέκι μου να πάω να γίνω κλέφτης»
Πολλές φορές ξεσηκώθηκε η Ελλάδα και ο Ελληνας. Ο ξεσηκωμός τους πνίγηκε στο αίμα. Η σκλαβιά έγινε χειρότερη.
Αγρυπνούσε, όμως, η άλλη Ελλάδα. Οι Έλληνες που ζούσαν εκτός της Ελλάδας. Ήσαν ακραιφνείς Έλληνες. Υπερήφανοι για την καταγωγή τους. Ξεσηκώθηκαν και αυτοί. Η άλλη Ελλάδα. Ένωσαν τις δυνάμεις τους με την Ελλάδα και τους Έλληνες της Ελλάδας και έγινε το θαύμα. Η Ελλάδα με την επανάστηση του 1821 αναστήθηκε. Λυγερόκορμη η ελευθερία περπατεί στα βουνά και τις ράχες. Στους κάμπους και τις θάλασσες της ελεύθερης Ελλάδας. Ζήτω η ελευθερία!
Καιρός να ρίξουμε μια ματιά στην σημερινή άλλη Ελλάδα. Οι Έλληνες που σήμερα ζουν εκτός Ελλάδας, είναι ένας πολύ υπολογίσιμος αριθμός. Όχι μόνο υπολογίσιμος αριθμός. Οι εκτός Ελλάδας Έλληνες είναι πετυχημένοι. Στα γράμματα. Στις τέχνες. Στο εμπόριο, στις επιχειρήσεις γενικά. Γιορτάζουν υπερήφανα την 25η Μαρτίου 1821 με δοξολογίες. Με γιορτές. Με παρελάσεις. Θαυμάσια! Αξίζουν συγχαρητηρίων.
Η άλλη Ελλάδα, δηλαδή οι Έλληνες του εξωτερικού, πρέπει να προσέξουμε δύο πράγματα. Οι πυλώνες που βασίζεται και στέκεται η άλλη Ελλάδα είναι δύο. Είναι η ελληνοπρέπεια και η ορθόδοξη πίστη. Γλώσσα και Ορθοδοξία. Αν χάσουμε αυτά τα δύο, θα χαθούμε και σαν Έλληνες. Εάν θέλουμε να υπάρχουμε, πρέπει να καλλιεργούμε αυτά τα δύο πράγματα. Αυτά καλλιεργούνται στην οικογένεια. Στην εκκλησία. Στο σχολείο. Κανείς δεν πρέπει να το ξεχνάει αυτό. Ελληνορθόδοξη οικογένεια. Ελληνορθόδοξη εκκλησία. Ελληνορθόδοξο σχολείο, για να κρατιέται η άλλη Ελλάδα πραγματική Ελλάδα.
Ελληνες και φιλέλληνες του Καναδά, γιορτάστε την 25η Μαρτίου 1821. Γιορτάστε την ελευθερία. Η ελευθερία είναι κοινό γνώρισμα. Ανήκει σε όλους τους λαούς. Και σεις Έλληνες του Καναδά γιορτάστε, αλλά και καλλιεργείστε την ελευθερία, στο ελληνορθόδοξο σπίτι. Στην ελληνορθόδοξη εκκλησία. Στο ελληνορθόδοξο σχολείο. Αυτό σας πρέπει. Αυτό σας ταιριάζει. Κρατήστε την άλλη Ελλάδα, πραγματική Ελλάδα. Αυτός είναι ο καλύτερος τρόπος η άλλη Ελλάδα να γιορτάζει την 25η Μαρτίου 1821.

March 25, 1821 and the Other Greece

The Ottoman occupation resulted in four hundred years of debilitating slavery. The Ottoman Empire embraced the religion of Muhammad, which in fact turned out to be not much of a religion, but rather more of a political system. “Islam Will Rule” is the maxim it serves. And it strives for this through any means it can.
This was what the Greeks and Greece endured during four hundred years of bondage. They lost all human rights. They had no freedom. They bore the heaviest of tax burdens simply for the right to breathe. The hardest part of all was the established Ottoman practice, as inspired by the Islamic political worldview, to steal their children away. The children were then forcefully Islamized. They were made janissaries and were required to kill their parents and their siblings. The Greek spirit however could not be contained. With deep resentment for this state of affairs, the Greek cried out:
“Mother, I say to you, I can no longer slave for the Turk
I cannot continue, I can endure no more, my heart has hardened
I will take my rifle, and join the fight for freedom in the mountains.”
Greece and the Greeks rose up on many occasions. Though their uproar was drowned in blood. And the slavery became worse.
But the Greeks who lived outside of Greece, which we can call the other Greece, were also troubled. They were indisputably Greek. Proud of their origin. They also rose up. That other Greece joined forces with Greece – and the Greeks in Greece – and the miracle took place. Greece was resurrected with the revolution of 1821. Freedom gracefully dwelled once more on the mountains and ridges, on the plains and seas of liberated Greece. Long live freedom!
Let us now consider today’s other Greece. There is a significant number of Greeks living abroad. Not only are they important in number, but the Greeks outside of Greece have achieved tremendous success. They have excelled in the arts, sciences, and business in general. They proudly celebrate March 25th, 1821 with doxologies, festivities and parades. How wonderful! They are truly worthy of congratulations.
The Greeks abroad must be careful about two things. We must remember that the other Greece has been founded on the following two pillars: the Hellenic ideal and the Greek Orthodox faith. Language and Orthodoxy. If we lose these two things, we will also be lost as Greeks. If we want to continue to exist, we must cultivate both of these aspects, which flourish within the Greek Orthodox Family, the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Greek Orthodox School. In order for the other Greece to be kept as real and thriving as it has always been, let no one forget the triptych: Greek Orthodox Family – Greek Orthodox Church – Greek Orthodox School.
Greeks and Philhellenes of Canada, I ask you to celebrate March 25th, 1821 as a commemoration of freedom, a universal value which belongs to all people. And the Greeks of Canada should especially celebrate and cultivate freedom in the Greek Orthodox Home, the Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek Orthodox School. This is what we need. This is what corresponds to our Hellenic heritage. The other Greece should continue to embody a Greece which is real and alive in all its facets. This is the best way for us to celebrate March 25th, 1821.
