On May 7, 1840, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born in Russia, considered the most popular Russian composer in history.
To the years of his peaceful childhood, the first theoretical studies and early musical experiences, including Mozart's opera Don Giovanni, which left an indelible mark in the boy's mood. Since then he always dedicated himself to the study of art, although, upon his father's desire, he enrolled in the law school in St. Petersburg and, obtained the title of laws, accepted a position in the Ministry of Justice, where, without however, did not stay long.
Between 1862 and 1865 he studied music under the tutelage of Anton Rubinstein at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Between 1866 and 1878 he was professor of theory and harmony at the Moscow Conservatory. At that time he met Franz Liszt and Hector Berlioz, who visited Russia with concert tours. During that period, Tchaikovsky wrote his first ballet ′′ Swan Lake ", the opera ′′ Eugene Onegin ", four Symphonies and the brilliant piano concert No. 1.
Tchaikovski personified the romantic soul as few. Deeply melancholic, his music remains timeless. Traditional symphonic construction, which performs miracles in its symphonies, alternates with freer forms of musical creation. His often nostalgic and lyrical expression made Tchaikovsky one of the masters of ballet music, which he endowed with an unknown musical quality until then. Between genius and misery, the composer left indelible pages in music history.
