It is only a month until the closing of the exhibition “Bill Viola. The Journey of the Soul”, hosted by the Pushkin Museum with support of our general partner VTB Bank (ВТБ). The artistic director of musicAeterna, Teodor Currentzis, shared his impressions of the exhibition and explained why it should not be missed:
“My first creative contact with Bill Viola was when Gerard Mortier invited me to participate in Tristan and Isolde, which he was doing with Peter Sellars.
What surprised me most about the exhibition was the feeling you get when you walk up the central staircase and see ‘Tristanian’ lights and water in the main hall. It immediately gives you a sacred feeling that the museum is not just a collection, but a cathedral of art.
It’s a rare perfectly organised exhibition of one of the most spiritual artists, one that is very important to address.
My visit gave me an unforgettable experience. It is a great joy that the exhibition was so well organized that it touched Moscow people’s hearts and that common people appreciated the great artist so deeply. I would very much like Bill Viola’s sacred works to be shown at Dom Radio, so that Petersburgers also have the opportunity to see part of this important project”.
