musicAeterna’s home residence, Dom Radio in St Petersburg, welcomes the unique Fazioli, considered the king of grand pianos and renowned for its acoustic power and rich timbres.
Fazioli Pianoforti is a modern Italian brand created by pianist and passionate music lover Paolo Fazioli in the early 1980s. It ranks among the world’s most famous manufacturers due to the exceptional quality of the instruments. The factory near Venice manufactures only 140 pianos a year, each taking around two years to make. These grand pianos are made by hand so that each instrument is unique. Fazioli pianos grace the stages of Teatro La Fenice and the Müpa Budapest, the National Grand Theatre in Beijing and the Colburn School, as well as the halls of the Conservatoire de Paris and the Juilliard School, the universities of Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, and other musical metropolises.
The Fazioli grand piano was purchased for Dom Radio with the support of musicAeterna’s General Partner VTB Bank (ВТБ) on the recommendation of the pianist Vadym Kholodenko Vadim travelled to the factory in Italy and chose the Fazioli F308 grand concert piano. It stands out for its immense power and extraordinary harmonic richness, owing to the increased string length in the bass section. It is endowed with a fourth pedal invented by Fazioli. It reduces the hammer-blow distance thus reducing the volume without modifying the timbre.
The new grand piano will be housed at Dom Radio in the Shostakovich Studio. On 2 September, Vadim Kholodenko will perform two pieces on the Fazioli: Variations on a Russian Theme by Ludwig van Beethoven and 36 Variations on the Chilean song ¡El Pueblo Unido, Jamás Será Vencido! by the American composer Frederic Rzewski.
