Montford Park Players, an Asheville theatrical tradition, is proud to announce their upcoming production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. All performances will be held at the Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre at 92 Gay Street in the heart of Asheville’s historic Montford District, from July 15th through August 13th on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at montfordparkplayers.org and are, as always, FREE.
The plot of Much Ado About Nothing takes place during a weekend in the country as Beatrice and Benedick have sworn off loving anyone, and being totally cool with it...or are they? Their friends and family think they might be perfect for each other and decide to trick them into falling in love. At the same time, Claudio and Hero fall in love and decide to get married within the week. All while Don Jon, Don Pedro's evil brother, plots to ruin everyone's fun. All of this involves Shakespeare’s usual comic misunderstandings, plot twists and wacky characters.
Director Dwight Chiles has chosen to use the Shakespearean hijinks to give the audience a show that celebrates diversity. As he puts it, “I read once that when you are directing Shakespeare you have the opportunity and responsibility to show the audience a world you wish for them. I wish for our audience a world of individualism and acceptance and love and friendship and family.”
Chiles continues, “[Shakespeare] wrote about beautiful, hilarious, flawed humans and his stories work wherever/whenever you set them. I want the audience to go home feeling like they just spent an evening with some of their best friends at the best backyard party of the season!”
To do this, Chiles has assembled a crack team of some of the best actors to grace the Hazel Robison Amphitheatre: Matt Wade, Fable Day, Patrik Nguyen and Matilyn Hull head up the all-star cast, with Erik Vik, Paula O'Brien, Jayden Parton, Josh Kerber, Emily Tucker, Latease Hidebran, Kai Strange, Sacred Stone and Gaia Eggert lending great support!
The design team includes equally-talented personnel, such as Dana Gillihan, Danielle King, Sydney Roberts, Jason Williams and Kristi Deville
Much Ado About Nothing is going to be a rollicking celebration and, to this backyard party, YOU are definitely invited!
Montford Park Players has been presenting Shakespeare and other classical works to the Asheville community since 1973 and has since grown to be one of Western North Carolina’s most beloved and well-known cultural attractions.
