Join tutor Frances Stanfield for this exciting cut-outs and drawing class focussing on dancers and figures in motion.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A RECORDING WHICH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH UNTIL THE 8TH OF MAY 11:59PM BST.
DETAILS ON HOW TO WATCH WILL BE IN YOUR EVENTBRITE "ONLINE EVENT PAGE" ONCE YOU HAVE BOOKED
Both artists worked in series, were obsessed with the portrayal of the figure in motion, and applied a method of reducing the form to simplified shapes. They saw cut out paper as an art-form in its own right.
Matisse cut "directly into colour", no drawing first and exhibited them as complete and finished artworks. Rodin made albums and pasted figures washed with watercolour into their pages . He said they were the key to his sculptural work stating, " I have a great weakness for these little sheets of paper".
They both managed to give paper forms a feeling of liquidity, a water-like movement that allows their cutout figures to dance about in space with incredible balance.
In this session we will be bringing into focus the dancers who inspired their work such as Alda Moreno, Alicia Markova and Loië Fuller and journey into the world of the Cambodian Royal Ballet .
