MusicAeterna - Teodor Currentzis - Dmitri Shostakovich’s Fourth symphony

“A very important piece for the history of the 20th century”, “colossal power”, “miracle”, “grandiose cast”, “symphony with a capital S” – Dmitri Shostakovich’s Fourth symphony is discussed by composer's son, conductor Maxim Shostakovich, philologist and art critic Dmitry Sollertinsky, composer Marko Nikodijevic, and Teodor Currentzis.

This is the start of the educational project "What Do I Hear?" — our collaboration with VTB Bank (ВТБ) — in which musicologists and music critics will talk about pieces and composers performed by musicAeterna.
The Fourth Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich, interpreted by musicAeterna and Teodor Currentzis, and toccata for orchestra by Marko Nikodijevic, commissioned by musicAeterna, have already been performed in Hamburg, Berlin and Paris.
On December 7, musicAeterna will present their new program at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.
On December 12, orchestra will perform the Fourth Symphony at the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia. The concert will take place exactly 85 years after cancelled premiere of the same symphony in the same hall.
