 La Corde sensible is organizing an Arabic music workshop in Athens from May 23 to 28, 2022, led by Qaïs Saadi
 Participants: 10 to 12 musicians practicing any type of instrument.
 Duration: 25 hours spread over 5 days (2 pm -7 pm)
 Workshop cost : 255 € (150 € for the Greek residents)

 WORKSHOP TRAINER
Qaïs Saadi is a renowned musician and teacher. He is the creator of the Escales musicales of the Arab World Institute in Paris, a monthly concert in which he invites musicians and singers from various musical traditions (Afro-Cuban music, West African music, medieval music, jazz, electronic music, etc.) to engage in a dialogue with music of the Arab world from the Maghreb, Gulf, Levant and the Horn of Africa. He teaches at the Arab World Institute and at the Philharmonie of Paris.

 WORKSHOP PROGRAM
Musicians playing Arabic and Oriental instruments (oud, nay, qanoun, kamandja, lyra, etc.) are the first target audience of the workshop, but it is also open to all instrumentalists (violin, clarinet, accordion, guitar ...) as well as to singers wishing to learn about Arabic music.
The participants will study various maqam-s, rhythmic cycles, musical forms and ornamentation techniques, which will be approached from a corpus of pieces from different repertoires:
- from the Middle East: mouachah-s, samaï-s and longa-s of the savant music, popular songs from Syria, Palestine and Egypt and selected pieces of Oum Kalthoum and Mohamed Abdel Wahab.
- from the Maghreb: instrumental and sung pieces of Arabo-Andalusian art music, popular music from Algeria and Morocco, Saharan music of the Tuaregs.
- Depending on the nature of the instruments played by the registered participants, a Yemeni piece from the musical tradition of Sana'a may also be offered.
The studied pieces will be transmitted to the participants, in the form of audio recordings most of them accompanied by a score, at least ten days before the beginning of the workshop.
Far from being isolated, Arab maqam music shares many elements with Greek, Turkish and Iranian music. The environment of the workshop, including the numerous concerts taking place every night in Athens, will nourish the trainees.

 AFTER THIS WORKSHOP,
You will be able to :
- understand the maqam musical system and name its various components, in particular through the in-depth study of some modes;
- put this understanding into practice in the production of your own improvisations;
- grasp the rhythmic dimension of a measured piece - instrumental or sung - to hear the rhythmic cycle that underlies it and to analyze the way in which the melody is shaped in the mold of the rhythmic cycle;
- play Arabic music pieces in a group;
- ornament a melody according to the style of Arabic music;
- identify and classify a piece of Arabic music, both stylistically and geographically.

 APPLICATION AND SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
The selection of the participants (an intermediate or advanced musical level is expected) will be made with the aim of creating a group that is both:
- coherent, in order to have a diversity of instruments that is conducive to many interactions, and
- homogeneous, so that a relative equality of levels allows for satisfactory work and significant progress for all.

Responses can be filled out in French or English, and must be sent by May 9 , 2022 at midnight (GMT)
- Between 10 and 12 applicants will be selected based on the responses to the forms and the needs of the workshop. The final response will be issued no later than the week of May 9, 2022.
For the selected candidates, an email will be sent with more detailed information.

 FEES AND PAYMENT TERMS
The registration fee for this workshop is 255 euros (150€ for the Greek residents) - corresponding to the participation fee for the training (between 25 and 30 hours training).
The cost of lunch and dinner is at the expense of the participants, as well as accommodation and travel for those who arrive from abroad.
As soon as the selected candidate confirms his/her participation in the workshop, he/she must pay a deposit of 50% of the total amount, paying the second installment at the latest two weeks before the workshop begins. Payment can be made by bank transfer to the account of the organization whose IBAN will be communicated by e-mail. The payment of the first installment will be considered as official registration. No refunds will be made after the first payment, except in case of force majeure.
The participants coming from abroad are required to inform themselves about the travel regulations related to COVID19.
La Corde sensible cannot be held responsible for any cancellation of the trip due to non-compliance with health regulations.

 PROGRAMME DU STAGE
Les musicien.ne.s pratiquant des instruments arabes et orientaux (oud, nay, qanoun, kamandja, etc.) sont les premiers destinataires du stage, mais celui-ci est également ouvert à tous les instrumentistes (violon, clarinette, accordéon, guitare ... ) ainsi qu’à des chanteuses et chanteurs souhaitant s’initier aux musiques arabes.
Les stagiaires étudieront divers maqams, cycles rythmiques, formes musicales et techniques d’ornementation, qui seront approchés à partir d’un corpus de pièces issues de différents répertoires :
- du Proche-Orient : mouachah-s, samaï-s et longa-s de la musique savante, chansons populaires de Syrie, de Palestine et d’Egypte et morceaux choisis d’Oum Kalthoum et de Mohamed Abdel Wahab.
- du Maghreb : pièces instrumentales et chantées de la musique savante arabo-andalouse, musiques populaires d’Algérie et du Maroc, musiques sahariennes des Touaregs.
- Selon la nature des instruments pratiqués par les stagiaires inscrits, un morceau yéménite tiré de la tradition musicale de Sanaa pourra également être proposé.
Les pièces étudiées seront transmises aux participants, sous forme d’enregistrements audio la plupart accompagnés d’une partition, au moins dix jours avant le début du stage.

Loin d’être isolées, les musiques arabes du maqam partagent de nombreux éléments avec les musiques grecques, turques et iraniennes. L’environnement du stage, en particulier les nombreux concerts ayant lieu chaque soir à Athènes, sera un bain musical propice à nourrir les stagiaires.

 APRÈS CE STAGE,
Vous serez en mesure de :
- comprendre le fonctionnement du système musical du maqam et de nommer ses différents éléments constitutifs, en particulier à travers l’étude approfondie de quelques mode
-mettre en pratique cette compréhension dans la production d’improvisations propres
-saisir la dimension rythmique d’une pièce mesurée - instrumentale ou chantée -, entendre le cycle rythmique qui la sous-tend et analyser la manière dont la mélodie est façonnée dans le moule du cycle rythmique
-jouer en groupe des pièces de musique arabe
-ornementer une mélodie selon le style propre aux musiques arabes
- identifier et classer stylistiquement et géographiquement une pièce de musique arabe.

 CANDIDATURE ET SÉLECTION DES CANDIDATS
La sélection des participant.e.s (dont un niveau musical intermédiaire et avancé est attendu) sera effectuée en visant la constitution d’un groupe à la fois :
- cohérent, afin de disposer d’une variété d’instruments qui soit propice à de nombreuses interactions, et
- homogène, afin qu’une relative égalité des niveaux permette un travail satisfaisant et une progression importante de toutes et de tous.
La sélection s'effectue comme suit :
- Formulaire en ligne incluant un texte présentant son parcours musical et une vidéo dans laquelle le musicien.ne interprète un morceau de son choix, dans le style musical qui est le sien. Le formulaire est accessible au lien suivant:

Les réponses peuvent être renseignées en français ou anglais, et doivent être envoyées au plus tard le 9 mai 2022 à minuit (GMT)

Entre 10 et 12 candidat.e.s seront sélectionné.e.s sur la base des réponses aux formulaires, et des besoins liés à l’atelier. La réponse finale sera émise au plus tard la semaine du 9 mai 2022.
Pour les candidat.e.s retenu.e.s, un courriel leur sera adressé leur indiquant les modalités détaillées du déroulement de l’atelier à Athènes.

 TARIFS ET MODALITÉS DE RÈGLEMENT
L’inscription à ce stage coûte 255 euros (150 € pour les résidents en Grèce), correspondant aux frais de participation à la formation.
Les frais liés au repas du midi et du soir sont à la charge des participants, ainsi que l’hébergement et le voyage pour celles et ceux qui arrivent de l’étranger.
Dès que le/la candidat.e retenu.e confirme sa participation à l’atelier, il doit dans un premier temps verser un acompte de 50% de la somme, et verser la deuxième tranche au plus tard deux semaines avant le démarrage du stage, et ce, par virement bancaire sur le compte de la structure dont les coordonnées seront communiquées par courriel. Le versement de la première tranche vaut inscription définitive. Aucun remboursement ne sera effectué au-delà du versement de la première tranche, sauf en cas de force majeure.
Les participant.e.s venant de l’étranger sont tenus de bien se renseigner sur les modalités de voyage en Grèce liées au contexte sanitaire actuel (COVID19).
La Corde sensible ne saurait être tenue responsable d’une annulation de voyage liée au non-respect des consignes sanitaires.

 INFORMATIONS PRATIQUES
Pour les candidat.e.s sélectionné.e.s arrivant de l’étranger, la structure leur facilitera la recherche de logement, et proposera une liste d’établissements hôteliers, et d'hébergement chez l’habitant. Ces informations seront communiquées aux candidats sélectionnés par courriel.

Ο Qaïs Saadi είναι ένας διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένος μουσικός και δάσκαλος.  Πρόγραμμα εργαστηρίου
Οι συμμετέχοντες/ουσες θα μελετήσουν ένα σύνολο κομματιών από διαφορετικά ρεπερτόρια της Εγγύς Ανατολής και του Μαγκρέμπ, διάφορα Μακάμ, ρυθμικούς κύκλους, μουσικές φόρμες και ερμηνείες.
Βασικός στόχος του εργαστηρίου είναι να συμπεριληφθούν μουσικοί που παίζουν αραβικά και ανατολίτικα όργανα (ούτι, νέι, κανονάκι, λύρα κ.λπ.), ωστόσο είναι επίσης ανοιχτό και σε όλους/ες τους/τις οργανοπαίχτες/τριες (βιολί, κλαρίνο, ακορντεόν, κιθάρα...) και τραγουδιστές/τριες που επιθυμούν να μάθουν για την αραβική μουσική.
Πέρα από την πρακτική στην τεχνική του οργάνου και τη θεωρητική μελέτη, ένας επιπλέον στόχος του εργαστηρίου είναι να παρέχει στους/στις συμμετέχοντες/ουσες ένα σύνολο πολιτιστικών και πολιτισμικών πληροφοριών καθώς και εργαλεία ανάλυσης και ταξινόμησης, που θα τους επιτρέψουν να αποκτήσουν μια δομημένη γνώση των διαφορετικών τύπων μουσικών ρεπερτορίων που εφαρμόζονται στον αραβικό κόσμο.
Η τροπική αραβική μουσική μοιράζεται πολλά στοιχεία με την ελληνική, την τουρκική και την ιρανική μουσική. Επειδή το σεμινάριο θα λάβει χώρα στην Αθήνα, οι συμμετέχοντες/ουσες θα μπορούν να έρθουν σε επαφή με πολυάριθμες συναυλίες που γίνονται κάθε βράδυ στην πόλη, ώστε να αποτελέσουν γι’ αυτούς/ές πηγή έμπνευσης.

 Μετά από αυτό το εργαστήριο,
Θα είστε ικανός/ή:
- να κατανοείτε τη λειτουργία του μουσικού συστήματος των Μακάμ και να ονομάζετε τα επιμέρους στοιχεία από συγκεκριμένα Μακάμ που θα έχετε αναλύσει.
- να αυτοσχεδιάζετε ακολουθώντας τη φρασεολογία αυτών των Μακάμ
- να αντιλαμβάνεστε τη ρυθμική διάσταση ενός μετρημένου κομματιού-τραγουδιού ή ορχηστρικής σύνθεσης- αναγνωρίζοντας τον ρυθμικό του κύκλο. Παράλληλα, να αναλύετε τον τρόπο με τον οποίο διαμορφώνεται η μελωδία πάνω σε αυτόν τον ρυθμικό κύκλο.
- να παίζετε αραβικά μουσικά κομμάτια ομαδικά.
- να «στολίζετε» μια μελωδία σύμφωνα με το ύφος της αραβικής μουσικής.
- να αναγνωρίζετε και να ταξινομείτε ένα κομμάτι αραβικής μουσικής, τόσο υφολογικά όσο και γεωγραφικά.

 Αίτηση και επιλογή υποψηφίων
Η επιλογή των συμμετεχόντων (μεσαίου και προχωρημένου επιπέδου) θα γίνει με στόχο τη δημιουργία ενός γκρουπ που θα είναι:
- συνεκτικό, ώστε να υπάρχει ποικιλία οργάνων που να ευνοεί την αλληλεπίδραση, και
- ομοιογενές, ώστε μια σχετική ισότητα επιπέδων να επιτρέπει ικανοποιητική εργασία και σημαντική πρόοδο για όλους.
Για να δηλώσετε συμμετοχή:
-Υποβάλετε
(1) ένα κείμενο που να παρουσιάζει το μουσικό σας υπόβαθρο και
(2) ένα βίντεο διάρκειας άνω των 2 λεπτών στο οποίο ερμηνεύετε οποιοδήποτε κομμάτι της επιλογής σας και θεωρείτε ότι σας αντιπροσωπεύει.

Οι απαντήσεις μπορούν να συμπληρωθούν στα γαλλικά ή στα αγγλικά και πρέπει να αποσταλούν το αργότερο στις 9 Μαΐου 2022 τα μεσάνυχτα (GMT)
- Θα επιλεγούν 10 έως 12 υποψήφιοι/ες με βάση τις απαντήσεις στα έντυπα και τις ανάγκες του εργαστηρίου. Η τελική απάντηση θα εκδοθεί το αργότερο την εβδομάδα της 9 Μαΐου 2022.
Στους επιλεγμένους υποψηφίους/ες θα σταλεί email με αναλυτικότερες πληροφορίες.

 Χρεώσεις και όροι πληρωμής
Το κόστος εγγραφής για αυτό το εργαστήριο είναι 150 ευρώ (για τους Έλληνες κατοίκους) - αυτό περιλαμβάνει το κόστος συμμετοχής για την εκπαίδευση (μεταξύ 25 και 30 ώρες).
Το κόστος του μεσημεριανού γεύματος και του δείπνου επιβαρύνει τους/τις συμμετέχοντες/ουσες, το ίδιο και η διαμονή και η μετακίνηση (για όσους/ες φτάσουν από το εξωτερικό).
Μόλις ο επιλεγμένος/η υποψήφιος/α επιβεβαιώσει τη συμμετοχή του/της στο εργαστήριο, θα πρέπει να προκαταβάλλει το 50% του συνολικού ποσού. Στη συνέχεια μπορεί να καταβάλλει τη δεύτερη δόση το αργότερο δύο εβδομάδες πριν την έναρξη του εργαστηρίου. Η πληρωμή μπορεί να γίνει με τραπεζικό έμβασμα στον λογαριασμό του οργανισμού. Το IBAN θα κοινοποιηθεί μέσω e-mail. Η καταβολή της πρώτης δόσης θα θεωρείται επίσημη εγγραφή. Δεν μπορεί να γίνει καμία επιστροφή χρημάτων μετά την πρώτη πληρωμή, εκτός από την περίπτωση ανωτέρας βίας.
Οι συμμετέχοντες/ουσες που προέρχονται από το εξωτερικό υποχρεούνται να ενημερωθούν για τους ταξιδιωτικούς κανονισμούς που σχετίζονται με τον COVID19.
Η La Corde sensible δεν μπορεί να θεωρηθεί υπεύθυνη για οποιαδήποτε ακύρωση του ταξιδιού εξαιτίας μη συμμόρφωσης με τους υγειονομικούς κανονισμούς.

 Πρακτικές πληροφορίες
Για τους/τις επιλεγμένους/ες υποψηφίους/ες που φτάνουν από το εξωτερικό, ο οργανισμός θα διαμοιράσει μια λίστα με ξενοδοχειακές εγκαταστάσεις και καταλύματα (στα οποία μπορούν να μείνουν μαζί με ντόπιους κατοίκους).
