At the 2022 edition of the Rencontres Musicales d'Évian, celebrated conductor Elim Chan leads the Orchestre National de Lyon in a stunning program of Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Debussy—joined by violin virtuoso Liya Petrova and cello star Victor Julien-Laferrière!
The program begins with one of Mendelssohn's most beloved works: the breathtakingly evocative Hebrides Overture, a symphonic poem that depicts a voyage to Fingal's Cave in the famed Scottish archipelago. Next, Petrova and Julien-Laferrière take the stage for a riveting performance of Brahms's Double Concerto, the composer's final orchestral work, inventive and virtuosic. Closing out the festivities is Debussy's La Mer (The Sea), a masterpiece of symphonic writing that, not unlike Mendelssohn's overture, paints a grand and striking portrait of the power of nature in a tumultuous seascape.
