On Ludwig van Beethoven’s birthday, December 16, soloists of the musicAeterna orchestra will perform his string quartets and trios at a chamber evening at Dom Radio.

The musicAeterna orchestra began the year of the composer’s 250th anniversary with the release of his Fifth Symphony and performances of several symphonies in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Now, the year ends with his chamber masterpieces. However, while listening to chamber music, it is difficult to forget that symphonic pieces were born in parallel with quartets and sonatas. String trio No. 1, Op. 9, one of Beethoven’s most important early compositions, is considered “Heroic” among his chamber music and anticipates the first of his nine symphonies. The quartets No. 10 and 11 were composed in Baden and Vienna in 1809-1810, at the same time with Egmont Overture.
“The Quartet is written for a small circle of connoisseurs and is never to be performed in public,” wrote Beethoven on the Quartet No. 11, adding to it, “Serioso”. On the composer’s day of birth this work will sound exactly the way the author would prefer: in a small circle of connoisseurs, the core audience of Dom Radio.
