The Glenn Miller Orchestra began breaking attendance records all up and down the East Coast beginning in 1938. During World War II, Miller organized the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band which had over 800 performances and a gross attendance of over 600,000. On December 15, 1944, Glenn Miller’s plane disappeared while traveling to Paris in order to make arrangements for the band’s upcoming tour of Europe. In 2003 Miller posthumously received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Glenn Miller Orchestra recordings include “Tuxedo Junction”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000?”, “Sun Valley Serenade” and “That Old Black Magic”. Additionally, Miller has three songs, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “In the Mood” and “Moonlight Serenade”, which have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
