THE INDUSTRY PRODUCTION DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION:

Founded in 2010 by director Yuval Sharon, The Industry creates innovative productions that expand the traditional definition of opera. By merging media and through interdisciplinary collaborations, we produce works that inspire new audiences for the art form. We keep a small core staff to let the specificity of each production determine creative, production, and administrative hires. In our landmark 10th year, we are evolving and growing. This spring we begin our next chapter with a new vision for artistic leadership: an Artistic Director Collective. The Production Director will support the entire Collective and is essential to the success of this new experimental model.

THE POSITION The Production Director leads the production team and oversees all The Industry’s productions, special events, and any other events that require production support (one large-scale production and up to three smaller events each year). The Industry seeks candidates who have varied interdisciplinary and collaborative performance production experience (live music production is a plus). We are interested in candidates who understand the challenges and benefits of working in a highly experimental and risk-taking environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working collaboratively and transparently with a small staff. They will appreciate the iterative and responsive nature of this organization.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
● Creating and maintaining an overview of the entire production process;
● Working in partnership with the Executive Director (ED) and Artistic Director Collective (ADC) to plan long-term and short-term production strategies;
● Hiring and managing production, design, and technical teams with ADC and ED;
● Serving as a liaison between The Industry and partners on all logistical matters, including communication between artistic and technical sides, and overseeing all production onsite;
● Developing and managing production paperwork, calendars, and timelines from project pre-production to completion;
● Collaborating with ED and ADC to create project budgets;
● Managing expenses for each project and ensuring that expenses remain within established budgets;
● Organizing and attending all production meetings, production-related conference calls, auditions, rehearsals, and performances;
● Running the production meetings and ensuring all departments report on their progress and are up-to-date on the overall status of production;
● Proactively checking-in with each department to ensure they have what they need and reporting their progress to the ADC and ED. Qualities, Skills and Characteristics The right candidate must have excellent team-working, creative problem-solving, troubleshooting, organizational, and analytical skills.
● Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Production Director, Production Manager, or related production experience in live and site-specific events (opera, theater, music, tv, film);
● Ability to think holistically and strategically about multiple projects with competing priorities and timelines all with a flexible approach;
● Experience in hiring and supervising a production (associate producers, stage managers, technicians) and design teams (lighting, A/V, costume);
● Some knowledge of stagecraft, opera/theatre production, scenic, and costume construction;
● High level of experience with Microsoft Products Suite, especially Excel and Word;
● Demonstrated ability to budget and prepare new productions;
● Ability to work well as part of local and remote teams as well as independently;

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: This position is salaried, full-time with flexible hours and benefits. This position requires year-round residence in Los Angeles. The salary is $60,000 per year.
