Η University of Memphis Touring Choir και η Μικτή Χορωδία του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών του ΕΚΠΑ, συμπράτουν σε έργα Αμερικανών και Ελλήνων συνθετών του 20ού και 21ου αιώνα, τη Δευτέρα 15 Μαϊου 2023 και ώρα 19.00 στη Μεγάλη Αίθουσα Τελετών του ΕΚΠΑ.
University of Memphis Choir bio:
The University of Memphis Touring Choir represents undergraduate and graduate students from our four choral ensembles at the University of Memphis. Choirs at the University of Memphis have been featured at the Tennessee Music Education Association Professional Development Conference and the American Choral Directors Association Southern Division Conference. The ensembles also regularly perform with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and annually tour the southern region of the U.S. In 2019, the touring choir performed concerts throughout Italy and previously performed international tours in Austria and Germany. All music ensembles are housed in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in music with concentrations in conducting, composition, performance, music education, music history, jazz and commercial music studies, music industry, and music therapy. The University of Memphis is classified as a Carnegie Research 1 institution and offers a variety of Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral, and Juris Doctor degrees.

Μικτή Χορωδία του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών
του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών

Ιδρύθηκε τον Νοέμβριο του 1998. Αποτελείται από φοιτητές του Τμήματος με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για το διεθνές χορωδιακό ρεπερτόριο, αλλά και την ελληνική μουσική δημιουργία. Μέλη της μπορούν να γίνουν και φοιτητές εκτός του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών, καθώς και πτυχιούχοι.
Η Χορωδία έχει ασχοληθεί με έργα Ελλήνων συνθετών τόσο της Επτανησιακής και Εθνικής Σχολής, όσο και της νεότερης περιόδου, και έχει ερμηνεύσει σημαντικά έργα του κλασικού ρεπερτορίου, όπως την Λειτουργία σε σι ελάσσονα και το Magnificat του Bach, τα Requiem του Mozart, του Fauré και του Brahms, τη Λειτουργία της Στέψης του Mozart, τη Συμφωνία της Λεβεντιάς του Καλομοίρη και πολλά άλλα. Έχει συνεργαστεί με την Κρατική Ορχήστρα Αθηνών, την Εθνική Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα της ΕΡΤ, τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα του Δήμου Αθηναίων, την Φιλαρμόνια Ορχήστρα Αθηνών κ.α., και με μαέστρους όπως οι Βύρων Φιδετζής, Μίλτος Λογιάδης, Ελευθέριος Καλκάνης, Μιχάλης Οικονόμου, Παύλος Σεργίου κ.α. Εκτός των πανεπιστημιακών χώρων, έχει εμφανιστεί στο Ωδείο Ηρώδου του Αττικού, στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών, στο Βασιλικό Θέατρο Θεσσαλονίκης, το Βεάκειο Θέατρο Πειραιά και στην Κύπρο.
Τον Απρίλιο του 2006 επισκέφθηκε τα Πανεπιστήμια του Μονάχου και της Χαϊδελβέργης, όπου πραγματοποίησε συναυλίες ελληνικής χορωδιακής μουσικής. Με τον τρόπο αυτό εγκαινίασε τις επαφές της με μεγάλα ευρωπαϊκά Πανεπιστήμια, που συνεχίστηκαν με το ταξίδι της αυτό στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Βενετίας, το καλοκαίρι του 2008, και στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Βιέννης, τον Μάιο του 2010.
Τον Απρίλιο του 2017 παρουσίασε σε πρώτη παγκόσμια εκτέλεση την «Λειτουργία εις κεκοιμημένους» (Requiem) του Δημητρίου Λιάλιου, ένα έργο που δεν είχε εκτελεστεί ποτέ, 130 χρόνια μετά τη σύνθεσή του. Τον Οκτώβριο του 2021 συμμετείχε στην πρώτη παγκόσμια εκτέλεση της νεοανακαλυφθείσας όπερας «Μάρκος Μπότσαρης» του Νικολάου Μεταξά-Τζανή, έργου του 1854, που παρουσιάστηκε σε πανηγυρική παράσταση της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών με αφορμή την επέτειο της συμπλήρωσης 200 χρόνων από την έκρηξη της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης του 1821.

Dr. Ryan Fisher:
Ryan Fisher, Professor of Music Education at the University of Memphis, conducts the Chamber Choir and is Interim Dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts. He also serves as artistic director of Memphis ChoralArts, a community choral organization which serves children to mature senior adults. Choirs under his direction have been featured at the Arkansas Music Educators Association conference, Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) conference, and American Choral Directors Association Southern Division Conference, and have made frequent guest appearances with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Conway Symphony Orchestra, and Germantown Symphony Orchestra. He currently serves as President of TMEA. He previously served as President-Elect of the Arkansas Music Educators Association, Vice President of the Texas Private Schools Music Educators Association and held positions on the National Association for Music Education-Choral Council, Tennessee ACDA state board, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education editorial committee. Dr. Fisher’s previous teaching experience also includes elementary music, middle school chorus, and high school chorus in Texas where he received numerous teaching awards.
Dr. Fisher is an active choral clinician and researcher. He earned a BME from Lee University, a MM in choral conducting and a PhD in music education from the University of North Texas. In 2016, he was recognized as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by the Lee University School of Music. His research interests involve the male voice change, assessment in music education, and self-efficacy. His writings have been published in various journals including Journal of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education.

Dr. Francis Cathlina:
Conductor-teacher Francis Cathlina, D.M.A., is a Vietnamese-American whose work lies at the intersection of choral music and narrative. Dr. Cathlina serves as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Memphis. He guides a comprehensive Choral Area of four ensembles through administrative leadership and vision; he leads the doctoral and master’s choral conducting program and mentors undergraduate students; and he conducts the University Singers (flagship SATB choir) and Mazi (SSAA choir).
As a first-generation musician, Dr. Cathlina’s Eastern heritage shapes his teaching. He cultivates a collaborative and rigorous culture, which has garnered national recognition at the university (UNT Men’s Chorus) and high school (Centennial High School) levels. He is a 2023 GRAMMY Music Educator Quarterfinalist, and early in his career, the Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA) designated him the “Young Director of Distinction.” Dr. Cathlina’s scholarship focuses on vocal pedagogy, choral tone, and artistic conducting gesture. In summer 2021, the American Choral Directors Association’s Choral Journal published his two-part article “7 Essentials for Developing Voices in Choir: Part I” and “Part II.” Additionally, he serves the profession as an adjudicator and coordinator and regularly presents interest sessions throughout the United States.
Dr. Cathlina holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting with a vocal pedagogy cognate from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music in choral conducting from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University. Prior to his doctoral studies, he taught public school, working with elementary through high school-aged singers with diverse backgrounds.

Ο Νίκος Μαλιάρας γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε στη Φιλοσοφική Σχολή του Πανεπιστηµίου Αθηνών, στο Εθνικό Ωδείο και Πανεπιστήµιο του Μονάχου, από το οποίο αναγορεύθηκε διδάκτωρ το 1990. Είναι Καθηγητής Ιστορικής Μουσικολογίας και Διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Ελληνικής Μουσικής στο Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.
Τα ερευνητικά διαφέροντά του επικεντρώνονται στην μελέτη της Ιστορίας και της εργογραφίας της Νεοελληνικής Έντεχνης µουσικής, στην ιστορική και αναλυτική µελέτη της µουσικής του Μανώλη Καλοµοίρη και άλλων εκπροσώπων της Εθνικής Σχολής, καθώς και τις συνάφειες της Ελληνικής μουσικής με την Ευρωπαϊκή, από τον Μεσαίωνα μέχρι σήμερα.
