Zooming in on Nero

Step into the shoes of a Roman citizen and experience the turbulent rule of the emperor Nero with the British Museum Youth Collective.

With a reputation tarnished by accounts of evil acts and lavish passion projects, Nero has become one of the most notorious figures in history.
As we take you through the events of his rule – from inheriting the throne at 16 to his forced suicide at 30 – it's up to you to decide whether he was a misunderstood young leader or a cruel tyrant after all.
This will be an immersive and interactive experience designed for 18–24 year olds, with attendees being assigned during the event as either a member of the senate, a Roman commoner or a soldier in the Praetorian Guard. The Youth Collective will guide you through the event with activities designed to explore this topic.
