musicAeterna’s first artistic residency in Moscow will take place from 30 September to 3 October.
The concept of the musicAeterna residencies is based on the art of slowing down and the idea of combining different kinds of art. In the largest cities of Europe and the world — Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vienna, Paris, Hamburg, Lucerne, New York, Tokyo — the musicAeterna orchestra and choir will not just give concerts but become an integral part of the cultural life, conducting educational programmes and innovative music and theatre projects.
Programme for the first residency in Moscow:
30 September
19:30 — Screening of Death in Venice by Luchino Visconti and discussion with Teodor Currentzis (in collaboration with KARO.Art).
1 October
18:00 — Mahler’s Fifth Symphony: Between Tradition and Modernism, a lecture by musicologist Dr Renate Stark-Voit (Austria).
20:00 — Concert of musicAeterna conducted by Teodor Currentzis: Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, Anaphora by Alexey Ratinsky (world premiere).
2 October
12:00 — Nanine Linning’s dance workshop for non-dancers.
14:00 — Workshop on opera conducting by Teodor Currentzis.
14:00 — Nanine Linning’s workshop for professional dancers.
20:00 — Concert of musicAeterna conducted by Fedor Lednev. 20th and 21st-century works engaging with the German music tradition and the legacy of Mahler: Schönberg, Berg, Webern, Andre, Retinsky, Takemitsu.
3 October
17:00 — Public discussion with Dr Renate Stark-Voit and Alexey Retinsky (in collaboration with Cartier)
20:00 — Concert of musicAeterna conducted by Teodor Currentzis: Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, Anaphora by Alexey Ratinsky (world premiere).
