From 12 to 19 September, musicAeterna’s home residence, Dom Radio in St Petersburg will host a series of events to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante's death.
Renowned literary critics, translators, philosophers, and musicians will join us to re-read and discuss The Divine Comedy.
• The series of meetings dedicated to Dante will open on 12 September at 16:00 with a screening of Romeo Castellucci's monumental trilogy Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso staged at the Avignon Festival 2008.
• On 13 September at 19:00, we will talk with poet and translator Olga Sedakova on the intricacies and subtleties of translating Dante.
• 16 September at 20:00, Zoya Kuptsova, a researcher at the State Hermitage Museum and curator of 13th-16th-century Italian paintings, will talk on manuscripts, Venetian printed books, and the most famous illustrator of Dante, Sandro Botticelli.
• 17 September at 20:00, Father Yuri, a priest of St. Catherine Parish on Nevsky Prospect, will deliver a lecture on the concept of purgatory in the Western Christian tradition.
• 18 September at 20:00, at a meet-the-artist, the resident of Dom Radio Andreas Moustoukis will introduce the Dantean symphonies of his teacher, the famous St Petersburg composer Boris Tishchenko.
• 19 September, Kristina Landa, a researcher at the University of Bologna, will lecture on pre-revolutionary translations of The Divine Comedy and their life in the 21st century.
