“The international RED BENCH OF ART”
′′ Every gender-based act of violence that results, or likely to result in physical, sexual or psychological damage or suffering for women, including threats of such acts, coercion or deprivation freedom arbitrary, whether it happens in public or private life ". So the United Nations General Assembly defines gender-based violence in Article 1 of the Declarations on the Elimination of Violence against Women. While the World Health Organisation regards it as a serious public health problem and a violation of women's human rights.
When it comes to gender-based violence, as a rule, we appeal to data to return the size of the phenomenon. And the data makes the idea: according to Oms estimates, about one in three women globally suffered physical or sexual assault from their partner, or from another person, and about a third of what they've had in a relationship reports they've Immediately some form of physical or sexual violence from one's partner in life. 38 % of feminicides, globally, are committed by their partner. In our country, according to Istat data, in the 2017-2019 s ER accesses for women diagnosed with violence were more than 19.000 (over 16.000 victims).
The 2020, then, was the worst year since 2000 in percentage terms for feminicides: the female member's impact on total murders was 40,6 %, i.e. the highest ever and 91 Total feminicides registered in 2020, 81 were committed in the family sector, 89 % of the total.
The data reported here do not claim exhaustivity, but they intend to make the contours of a very complex phenomenon that must be considered in its social, legal, health and political dimension. In recent decades, more and more studies have started investigating male violence against women even from a historical perspective, for example the way in which in the previous centuries law has legitimized or sanctioned violent acts; examining social practices of Complicity or stigmatisation that can be identified on the scene of violence, for example by the neighborhood or by the civil or religious authorities; finally, also analyzing the history of emotions that often represent an important engine in violence against women.
