BALLAD FOR A PIERCED HEART, Dir. Yannis Economides

Lost in their conniving planning and scheming, three families in a small Greek town forget the strongest motive of all: love. Pure, romantic, unrequited love, the kind that can drive a man to do anything in order to save an unsuspecting woman from the wolves that surround her.

Anna has lost her memory, but she hasn’t forgotten how to cook.
 In the kitchen, amidst the scents of spices and old forgotten 
recipes, she struggles to reconstruct her past. Her simple but
 delicious food awakens memories for the tavern’s regulars 
who in turn help her to reconnect with herself.

When the bank threatens to repossess the family shop
 and his father falls ill, Nikos takes action: With a wondrously 
strange tailor shop on wheels, he reinvents himself while 
bringing style and confidence to the women of Athens.




2 MILES FROM HOME, Documentary, Dir. Julia Speropoulos
Greece, 2020, 84 min, World Premiere
This documentary recounts events of the 1914-1923 period
 in Turkey, and the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk at 
Samsun in May 1919, which marked the climax of the 
genocide that killed more than 353,000 Pontic Greeks
 of the Black Sea.























MARKOS, Documentary, Dir. Nikos Skarentzos
Greece, Serbia, Italy, 2020, 93 min, LA Premiere
Α band of musicians travel to the Greek island of Syros,
 the birth place of Rebetiko musician Markos Vamvakaris, 
where they are invited to perform in an homage to the 
legendary man’s work.

This documentary follows the story of 12 Greeks from Istanbul who lived through the pogrom of 1955. Who were the Greeks of Istanbul? How did they continue the Byzantine legacy? How did they manage to keep their language, religion, and identity intact for 500 years after the fall of Constantinople?
