César Delgado
to the Advisory Board of Opera de San Miguel.César is the first member of our Advisory Board to be a veteran of the Opera de San Miguel Concurso. He was a Finalist in Concurso 2012, Third Prize Winner in 2013 and First Prize Winner in 2015. His career and achievements in opera are an example for upcoming young singers.
César has also participated and won several prizes in other singing contests such as the Career Bridges Grant Award in 2014, Opera Index International Vocal Competition in 2016, the Concurso Internacional de Canto Sinaloa in 2017, the Giulio Gari Foundation and the Gerdner Lissner Foundation Vocal Competitions, both in 2018, and the Concurso Nacional de Canto y Ópera PALCCO in 2019.
César began his vocal studies with Mexican conductor and teacher Enrique Patrón de Rueda at the Mazatlán Opera Workshop, and was a First Generation member of the Sinaloa Opera Workshop. He is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music in New York City.
Since his debut as an opera singer in 2012, César has performed leading roles in many international opera stages and concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall, the Charleston Opera, the Fort Worth Opera, the New Orleans Opera, the New York City Opera, the Ontario Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North, the San Diego Opera, the State Theater of Regensburg in Germany, and the Williamsburg Opera.
César has also participated in the Bard Festival in New York, the Arezzo Festival in Italy, the Master Voices program in Lincoln Center, the International Vocal Arts Institute young artists summer program in Montreal and the Israel Vocal Arts Institute summer program in Tel Aviv. In Mexico, César has worked with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, the Mazatlán Opera, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Coahuila, and the Symphony Orchestras of the Estado de México, Oaxaca, Sinaloa and Xalapa.
César Delgado is a lyric tenor and has sung over a dozen leading roles since his debut: Puccini’s La Bohème (Rodolfo), Tosca (Cavaradossi), Gianni Schicchi (Rinuccio) and Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton); Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love (Nemorino) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo), Rossini’s The Barber of Seville (Almaviva) and Il Viaggio a Reims (Libenskof); Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Ferrando) and The Magic Flute (Tamino); Verdi’s Rigoletto (the Duke), Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas (Arcadio) and Il Postino (Mario Ruoppolo), and the Miller in El gato con botas (Puss & Boots) by Xavier Montsalvatge.
As Shari Alexander, director of the Angels of Opera de San Miguel, said about César, “his devotion to his career, before and after winning the Concurso 1st Prize in 2015, his sustained contribution to OSM with participation in fundraisers, attending galas to the delight of the Angels, has been greatly appreciated and noted. We believe he is truly the living example of what OSM's Mission Statement exemplifies”.
César stated that this new appointment, “helping to carry on with John Bill’s enormous legacy, is one of the biggest honors of my life”.
