The Hellenic Home in Canada, which is financially assisted by the Government of Canada, has two hundred and twenty-five (225) apartments available for people who are over the age of 60 and facing financial difficulties. All of the residents, however, are able to take care of themselves.
The Hellenic Home also has more than two-hundred (200) rooms available for the elderly who require total care. It has doctors and nurses and a service staff.
Metropolitan Sotirios visited the Hellenic Home on Clean Monday as he does every year. He visited and greeted every single resident that requires total care. He chanted the hymn “Lord of the Powers…” with them. Following this, assisted by Fr. C. Socosan, Fr. I. Delis and Fr. G. Nikiforakis, he conducted the Great Compline service together with the Great Canon.
After the Great Compline, he participated, together with around three hundred and fifty (350) people, in a dinner known as a “Koulouma.” Mr. J. Fanaras, President of the Hellenic Home; Mr. K. Kostouros, Chief Executive Officer; Mr. J. Carras, President of the Pan-Macedonian Association; and many others joined His Eminence at both the Great Compline and dinner.
The evening, both with the elderly and at the dinner that followed, was intimate and joyful.
In his homily, Metropolitan Sotirios spoke on the topic Our Orthodox Faith and our journey through Great Lent and praised the management of the Hellenic Home and its staff.
