The Hon. Terence Quick, Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, accompanied by the Consul General of Greece in Toronto, Mr. Alexandros Ioannidis, visited our Holy Metropolis.
He toured the entire Metropolis and Theological Academy. He noted the great organization and was especially impressed by the beautiful Byzantine iconography of the Church of St. John the Theologian and Chapel dedicated to our Lady of the Life-Giving Spring.
He spoke to the students of our Theological Academy, putting first faith in God, as well as speaking warmly with regards to the actions of the Orthodox Church.
He then had a meeting with Metropolitan Sotirios, together with Consul General Ioannidis.
There was also a private discussion with Metropolitan Sotirios.
Deputy Minister Quick spoke about a number of issues pertaining to Greece, particularly the economic challenges, religious teaching in schools, the migrant challenges, and problems with Turkey in the Aegean. He was aware of the actions of the Church in Canada and expressed his admiration.
Metropolitan Sotirios spoke very warmly about the Annunciation of the Theotokos, March 25th 1821, the role of Greece in history from antiquity to today, and thanked the Minister for his promotion of our faith and the work of the Church.
Our Holy Metropolis thanked the Minister for his visit to Canada, which includes stops in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.
