Joe Goodkin will perform "The Odyssey in Song: A One-Man Modern Folk-Opera Performance of Homer’s Epic" live at the American School's Cotsen Hall. This event will also be livestreamed on the School's YouTube channel at https://bit.ly/3FYpNlv.
Part lecture, part musical performance, and part interactive discussion, the centerpiece of Goodkin's program is a 35-minute continuous performance of 24 original songs with lyrics inspired by Odysseus' famous exploits. His performance represents in a contemporary musical mode both the abridged plot and the performance circumstances of Homer's original oral composition of the "Odyssey" and is generally followed by a robust audience discussion.
Joe Goodkin is a Chicago-based singer/songwriter who holds a B.A. in Classics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He tours the country performing his one-man folk-opera interpretation of Homer's "Odyssey" (more than 300 performances in 42 U.S. states).
