Billy Chrissochos: As Director of Modern Music of the New York Chapter of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands, I had the honor to recognize the creator Glen A. Larson and his son Glen Eric Larson of the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica TV series for its cross-cultural promotion of Greek concepts through the arts.
As a Greek-American watching the original Battlestar Galactic on television, I was attracted to it on many levels, the action, the stories, the look, the music, and of course the constant references to the Ancient Greeks, and Greek Mythology, it spoke to me on many levels. I am very proud to give this great show the recognition it deserves.
The NY Chapter Press Secretary; Mr. Peter S. Giakoumis, and Co-Host Christopher T. Moore, spearheaded the event with their live streaming social media digital show named IFB Interfleet Broadcasting which broadcasts on Facebook and YouTube.
Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, President of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands and Member of the Board of the World Federation of Associations and Club Centers for UNESCO, responsible for Europe and North America, also made a statement that “Glen A. Larson weaved Ancient Greek concepts into Battlestar Galactica, and the way the show and its stars brought them to life is a credit to the legacy of the Greek spirit and its continuing legacy.”
Special thanks our Events Coordinator George Zouvelos for his help and Greek partner Panagiotis Karousos.
