Salzburg Easter Festival supports UNICEF emergency-aid for Japan

The terrible environmental disasters in Japan, the long-term implications of which have yet to be fully understood, have shocked the world. The Salzburg Easter Festival, which has close ties with Japan through previous guest appearances as well as through a large number of its loyal Japanese Patrons, is deeply concerned that both the relief of human suffering and repairs to the effects of the catastrophe be achieved as rapidly as possible.
With this in mind, the Salzburg Easter Festival is making its contribution to the UNICEF emergency-aid fundraising campaign by the Berliner Philharmoniker.
From the dress rehearsal of “Salome” on 13 April, 2011, onwards we are asking our
guests to make a donation to the bank account at Bank Vontobel, which has been opened especially for this purpose. Payment slips will be available at every performance where programme books are sold. All contributions to this fundraising campaign will be passed by the Berliner Philharmoniker, in their function as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, directly to the emergency-aid of UNICEF.
We are delighted to announce that the Patron-in-Chief of the Salzburg Easter Festival,
Madame Eliette von Karajan, has made the very generous contribution of EUR 30.000,- in order to start the campaign by the Salzburg Easter Festival.
