DALLAS, MARCH 11, 2011 – The Dallas Opera is proud to present the eagerly
awaited finale of the 2010-2011 “Dangerous Desires” Season: Modest Mussorgsky’scontroversial 1869-1874 masterpiece, a monumental work that has gone without a staging in Dallas for more than thirty years: BORIS GODUNOV, opening Friday, April 1,
2011 at 7:30 PM in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T
Performing Arts Center in Downtown Dallas.
Subsequent performances are scheduled for April 3(m), 6, 9, 15 & 17(m), 2011
with single tickets starting at just $25.
“If there were such a thing as the Russian National Opera—this would be it,”
explains Dallas Opera Artistic Director Jonathan Pell. “It’s an enormously powerful
work with moments of exceptional lyricism. This phenomenal opera stars,” he adds,
“many of the finest singers from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatres; making it
one of the all-time, genuine must-see productions ever to be presented on any stage in
North Texas.
“In fact, you’d have to travel to St. Petersburg or Moscow to experience anything
remotely comparable. This is much more than a mere production—it’s the late Andrei
Tarkovsky’s singularly Russian vision of the world.”
