PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is pleased to announce the 2011-2012 season of the Columbia Gas Symphony Series at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle.
This will be the 11th season of the PSO performances at this venue.
Three-concert subscription prices range from $33 to $147. Student and children subscription packages are available for $24. Subscriptions can be purchased by calling the Heinz Hall Box Office toll-free at 1.800.743.8560 or visiting the PSO online at www.pittsburghsymphony.org/src.
The Classical Favorites concert at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 will be led by PSO Assistant Conductor Thomas Hong and features PSO associate principal horn Stephen Kostyniak as soloist. The program will include Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a; Mozart’s Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major for Horn and Orchestra, K. 495; and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.
PSO Resident Conductor Lawrence Loh will lead the orchestra in the Holiday Pops concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. The program will feature favorite carols, holiday music, an appearance by Santa and surprises sure to inspire the spirit of the season.
The final concert of the season will be a St. Patrick’s Pops with Natalie MacMaster at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012. Loh will lead the orchestra in a concert featuring internationally-renowned fiddler Natalie MacMaster. MacMaster, a Grammy Award-winning artist, will present Irish music favorites, includingDavid’s Jig, Blue Bonnets and O’Carolyn’s Concerto.
