28η Οκτωβρίου και Ομοψυχία Ελλήνων
Η ιστορία έχει καταγράψει τον ηρωισμό και τα κατορθώματα των Ελλήνων στον δεύτερο παγκόσμιο πόλεμο.
Ο Τσώρτσιλ είπε. «Από δω και πέρα δεν θα λέμε, ότι οι Έλληνες πολεμούν σαν ήρωες, αλλά ότι οι ήρωες πολεμούν σαν Έλληνες»
Χωρίς αμφιβολία η ανθρωπότητα θαύμασε. Χειροκρότησε. Έδωκε στους Έλληνες την τιμή που τους ανήκει.
Θαυμάζει κανείς και απορεί πως οι Έλληνες στον πόλεμο του ‘40 κατόρθωσαν αυτά που κατόρθωσαν. Ένα ήταν το μυστικό. Η ομοψυχία των Ελλήνων. Δεν ήταν διαιρεμένοι. Δεν προσπαθούσε ο ένας να γκρεμίσει τον άλλον. Όλοι μαζί. Άνδρες γυναίκες και παιδιά. Κυβερνήτες και κυβερνώμενοι. Πλούσιοι και φτωχοί. Γραμματισμένοι και αγράμματοι. Χωρίς καμία διάκριση. Όλοι αφοσιωμένοι στο καθήκον τους. Να προστατέψουν την πατρίδα τους. Την τιμή τους. Την οικογένεια. Την ορθόδοξη πίστη. Την ελευθερία. Τα έδωκαν όλα για την ελευθερία. Θυσιάστηκαν. Μεγαλούργησαν. Έσωσαν την ανθρωπότητα από την βαρβαρότητα των Γερμανών. Δοξάστηκαν.
Ποιο είναι το μάθημα για μας; Όχι για τον καθένα. Για μας τους Έλληνες ορθόδοξους που ζούμε στην ευλογημένη χώρα του Καναδά:
Ομοψυχία. Συνεργασία. Προσήλωση στην ορθόδοξη πίστη. Στα ελληνοχριστιανικά ιδεώδη. Στην ελληνική γλώσσα.
Ενωμένοι γύρω από τις κοινότητες μας. Ο κλώνος μένει στον κορμό της Εκκλησίας μας. Ο Χριστός είναι η άμπελος, εμείς τα κλήματα. Η εκκλησία μας είναι μία οικογένεια. Εμείς τα μέλη της, όπου και αν βρισκόμαστε.
Όλοι θέλουμε την επιτυχία. Όλοι θέλουμε την πρόοδο. Αυτό θα το πετύχουμε με την ομοψυχία μας. Με την συνεργασία όλων. Η συνεργασία είναι πρόοδος. Η διχόνοια είναι οπισθοδρόμηση και καταστροφή.
Γιορτάζοντας την εθνική επέτειο της 28ης Οκτωβρίου 1940, τίποτε άλλο να μη σκεπτόμαστε από την ομοψυχία. Με αυτή θα επιτύχουμε. Με αυτή θα προοδεύσουμε. Με αυτή θα γίνουμε ήρωες. Αυτή η ομοψυχία θα μας δοξάσει. Θα μας θαυμάζουν οι συμπολίτες μας. Θα μας ευγνωμονούν τα παιδιά μας και οι απόγονοι μας. Θα δοξάζεται ο Θεός.

October 28th and Greek Unity
History has recorded the heroism and accomplishments of the Greeks during World War II.
Churchill said, “Henceforth, we will not say that Greeks fight like Heroes but that Heroes fight like Greeks.”
Without a doubt, their feat was admired and applauded by all humanity. The Greeks received the honour they deserved.
People admire and wonder how the Greeks during the war in 1940 were able to accomplish what they did. This was their secret: the Greeks were united. They were not divided. One did not try to overthrow the other. They were all together. Men, women and children. Those who governed and those who were governed. The rich and the poor. The educated and the uneducated. They did not discriminate against each other. They were all dedicated to their task: to protect their country, their honour, their family, their Orthodox faith, their freedom. They forfeited everything for freedom. They sacrificed themselves. They accomplished great feats. They saved humanity from the barbarism of Nazi Germany. They were immortalized in glory.
What is the lesson for us? Not for everyone, but specifically for us Greek Orthodox Christians who live here, in this blessed country of Canada.
Unity. Cooperation. Dedication to the Orthodox faith. To the Greek Orthodox ideals. To the Greek language.
United around our communities, the branch remains joined to the trunk of our Church, for Christ said He is the vine and we are the branches. Our Church is a family. We are its members, wherever we may be.
We all want to be successful. We all want to advance. We will achieve this by being united, by working together. Cooperating together is progress. On the other hand, disunity leads to regression and catastrophe.
As we celebrate the Greek national holiday of October 28th, 1940, our minds should be squarely focused on unity. If we are united, we will succeed. We will progress. We will become heroes. Our unity will lead to glory. Our fellow citizens will admire us. Our children will be thankful to us, along with all the future generations. Through our unity, God will be glorified.
