Zarina Rafiq was born and brought up in London. She was trained and worked as a professional actress before she moved to Italy.
Zarina presents another form of...publication, the Perfomance Reading
She started writing poetry about 15 years ago as a way of gaining clarity in a time that was very complex emotionally. She gradually started writing about everyday things, events, moments and people she met. Sometimes just to explore or understand, sometimes to celebrate, sometimes to preserve. She first started performing in France just over a year ago and audiences responded well saying they could identify with much of what she shared. For the last couple of months under the guidance of Dr. Julian Stannard, Reader at the Department of Creative Writing at the University of Winchester in South England and a leading British contemporary poet, she have been working on the preparation of the manuscript for publication in the form of a book.
The poems are varied both in content and tone. Some are observational, others autobiographical, others discussive and others more intellectual. The tone ranges from comic to ironic to serious to bitter to critical.
The duration is 50 minutes and for English and Italian speaking audience.
