The Ukrainian baritone, Iurii Samoilov received his Master’s degree at the National Music Academy of Ukraine in June 2011 with honors, studying voice with Roman Mayboroda. He performed as a soloist at Opera Studio in Kiev, playing the title part in «Eugen Onegin» amongst other operas.
In 2009-2010, he was a guest student at the Dutch National Opera Academy, a period during which he performed the part of Sid in Britten’s «Albert Herring».
He has also won in several vocal competitions in Ukraine, as well as becoming a finalist during the «Neue Stimmen» competition in Germany, resulting in an invitation to take part in the «Neue Stimmen» master classes in November 2010. In June 2011 he became a finalist of Klaudia Taev singing competition in Estonia. In 2012 laureat of ‘Debut’ competition in Germany.
Since 2010 he was member of Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam and participated in several projects of this institute. Guglielmo in Mozart’s ‘Cosi fan tutte’, Plutone in Monteverdi’s ‘Orfeo’ and several others.
In November 2010 he made his debut in the famous Amsterdam Concertgebouw and in December in Royal Albert Hall in London participating in the Jose Carreras Christmas Gala. In June 2011 he appeared in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam again in Mahler’s «Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen» with Sweelinck orchestra. During Summer 2011 they had a big tour together in Ukraine and performed in National Philarmonies in Kiev, Odessa and Lviv.
In September 2011 he participated in the Jubileum production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in Muziektheater in Amsterdam. In February 2012 Iurii made his debut at the Dutch National Opera working with famous Dmitri Tcherniakov in the production of Rimski-Korsakov’s «The story of invisible town Kitezh».
During Summer 2012 he sang titelrole in «Pelleas et Mellisande» of Debussy as a part of Operadagen festival in Rotterdam, Covered Biterolf in Wagner’s «Tannhauser» as a part of Tiroler Festspiele in Erl and Nardo in Mozart’s «La Finta Giardiniera» at Aix-en-Provence Festival in France.
In the seasons 2012-14 Iurii was a member of Young Artist Program of Frankfurt Opera House. He did several roles on main stage there as well as roles in Kinderoperas. Figaro in Rossini ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’ and Cesare in Handel’s ‘Giulio Cesare in Egipto’, Sciarrone in Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ and Bello in ‘Fanciulla del West’, Giorgio in Rossini’s ‘La Gazza Laddra’ as well as Don Giovanni in production for children. Past Summer Iurii was a part of Young Singers Project at Salzburger Festspiele. Several concerts including one with Salzburg Camerata, he was a part of Verdi’s ‘Don Carlo’ and Mozart’s ‘Entfuerung aus dem Serail’.
From September 2014 Iurii Samoilov is a member of ensemble at Oper Frankfurt and he is scheduled to sing Marcelloin Puccini's «La Boheme», Dandini in Rossini's «Cenerentola», Masetto in Mozart's «Don Giovanni» among others. http://www.iuriisamoilov.com/
